Posh Chairman Darragh MacAnthony issued a statement over the weekend regarding George Boyd. In the statement MacAnthony stated that he would not be accepting any stupid offers for his star player. He named four or five other Championship clubs that were chasing his signature. In his next breathe he reported :- Leeds have told Posh they are not in a position to follow up their interest in the player. MacAnthony has no reason to lie, why would he? What has happened about our spending spree? Where is our BIG signing? Things get no better on the field. Soundly beaten 2-0 at Oakwell. When I say soundly beaten, thats an understatement. Barnsley had 12 corners to nil, and we did not have a proper shot on target all game. After the game Warnock was (again) surprisingly upbeat, looking forward to the next match, and tried to deflect the flack on Becchio's state of mind. If you were Becchio, would you want to stay? Since taking charge in February 2012, Warnock has Managed Leeds United for 47 games. Of those 47 games, Leeds have won 18, drawn 10 and lost 19. That gives Neil Warnock a win ratio of 38%. Bear in mind also that these stats include cup games, so take out this seasons Carling Cup successes and things would look even worseâ¦# I think a fair comparison for circumstances would be with Gary McAllister. Macca was in charge for 50 games, lasting just under a year in the job. He was derided for the 5 match losing run that ended his reign, culminating in defeat at Histon Maccaâs win ratio? 50%. Looking at other Managers from Leeds Unitedâs recent history doesnât do Warnock any favours either. Simon Grayson had a win ratio of 50% too. Dennis Wise won 44% of his games in charge. You have to go back to Kevin Blackwell, Peter Reid and Terry Venables before you start to find comparable records to our current Manager. Blackwell matched Warnockâs record of 38% (well he did used to be his assistant manager, he must have learned a few things !), whilst Peter Reid has the worst record of modern times, only managing a 27% ratio. Venables also matches Warnock and Blackwell, not a good omen for Leeds Managers with a 38% win ratio!
Morning Elland and crew. That posh statement comes as no surprise to be honest. Ive no doubt we have little more spending power than twelve months ago. Looks like we cant compete with anyone in the Championship on or off the field. Recruiting a new manager will achieve nothing without substantial external resources. I say external, because the only money the club can generate is through the sale of the three players worth anything. I see Derby are set to get 7 million for one of their young lads. How come we can never get that sort of dosh, always a mysterious undisclosed fees. On a plus note Yorkshire Post reporting Bates program notes are a thing of the past. Rumours of a boards meeting today at Leeds circulating various forums. Once again you feel it's going to be a pivotal week for the club and as per usual it's off the field stuff rather than on field that'll be making the headlines
Morning all Don't think I've ever been as deflated as I am right now, even through all the garbage we had to put up with in the past. After the great news of the takeover and 3 fantastic performances and results, we seem to have hit rock bottom. So Warnock is now losing the fans, and he can't blame just the players, as he brought in a lot of the present side. On paper this squad is better than last seasons overall, and we're supposed to have a manager who's top of the league at this level. he seems to have lost the plot and the players seem to have no idea of what they should be doing. last 2 games have seen few shots and corners and all we do is chase shadows even when playing struggling sides. So is it time for a new manager? How come the posh chairman says Leeds are not in a position to go for Boyd? That tells a sorry story in itself, because it looks like Warnock needs to get rid before he can bring anyone in, and we don't have many that anyone else wants, because of the crap we have. Season over yet again, just a couple of weeks into the new year. Another transfer window blown even though we were promised cash from the new owners. More of the same and full of pain, why should we bother if they don't
You have caught me up then, I was feeling like that a few weeks ago. At the moment it seems that we are no better off than we were 12 months ago, on paper we should have a slightly stronger squad but performances do not suggest that, on paper Bates out and GFH in should also seem far better, is it? I think it is clear GFH do not have major funds available to them, I can see the advantage of having them at the helm rather than Bates so we have limited options: 1) Write this season off, be honest with the fans about available money and see what needs doing at the start of the new season, what players we might be able to bring in. 2) Allow Warnock to flog off 1 or 2 players, we know that will be Becchio, McCormack or Byram and use 100% of the money to bring in players who he believes will make a diference 3) Sack Warnock sell nobody allow someone from within to see the season out and bring in a new manager when the right one becomes available. To be honest all three options stink Morning all.. Just a real horrible thought, what if Bates has first option to a buy back? What if there is a clause stating should GFH wish to sell within X months Bates has first refusal? I can see GFH failing to secure finances pressure being put on them by share holders and cutting their losses realising this is a harder task than they had imagined. I hope this is just Monday morning blues...
what part of you is furry, Elland? tbh I have lost it completely now. This is truly pathetic. Given the "gold" that comes from getting into the Prem, I cannot for the life of me understand how "businessmen" don't find a way of putting in the resources to make that likely to happen. Its not a football fan speaking here, of course I want super players to watch, its the businessman in me - it just seems to me rudderless behaviour. What in heavens name is the business strategy? The only way I can interpret what is happening is either its incompetence or the business plan is to make money out of being a Championship side (but I can't see how that strategy would optimise financial returns for them). Really puzzling. On a different subject, there was a snippet in one of the papers yesterday aboiut Glasgow Rangers, despite storming the Scottish Blue Square (or whatever they are in) might not get promoted to the Scottish Second Div because they may rstucture the leagues -p so are pissed off and thinking of leaving (which I assume means applying to join the English leagues). Anyone heard anything about this, the first I have heard of it?
I disagree, I would happily take the 3rd option. I'd prefer to get a proper manager in now but if they weren't available then having a caretaker till we get who is right for the club rather than rushing into a decision. Issue is with GFH is regardless of what they do they will have a huge amount of pressure from fans, I really do believe that
Heres a worse thought Ristac. What if the wealthy backer Bates spoke of after takeover IS Bates. Has anyone considered this possibility because I have
Here's another thought for you - if you are unable to compete financially with the likes of Millwall and Palace, maybe GFH cannot afford to pay Warnock off by sacking him - you'll be stuck with him till he quits or his contract runs out at end of season
I actually don't get the impression that GFH can't compete financially regardless of what others on here are saying. Its a well known fact that they put some money into the club in the summer and they have already made 4 signings in january. Hall cost 250k and a couple reports I have read suggest Tonge was 600k, Warnock still says that he is bringing in a 'big' signing whatever that means. I think the Boyd thing is just because we aren't interested anymore to be honest. And bear in mind that January is a **** time to do business as well as a very well reported takeover will inflate prices further. I think realisitically they are probably planning for next season but want to try get the fans on side now with a bit of spending to prove they are committed but they still don't want to spend too much because then funds won't be as available in the summer
Morning all. My half full cup seems to have sprung a leak. Its not good. Hopefully tomorrow's cup match will lighten the mood a tad. Even if we lose but play some decent stuff, at least we'll all feel a bit better.
Not the best of WUM attempts. Hardly the worst thing in the world even if true. We'd just have the replacement lined up and install them at the start of the summer. I've already heard the words "For you, Englisher, ze season ist over..." so what happens in the next few months is only relevant in the context of how we are positioned for next season.
If thats the case, why dont they say so. Missed payments during takeover, delays all point to lack of cash. Money put in to get loan signings in December was reportedly around 200k. Hardly figures worth talking about really
Morning All, Rumours of a board meeting today, is it? That'll be them tied up for the next 7 months then, won't it? Can't expect them to make a swift decision, can we? Not until they've spoken to the Venky's to see what they think they should do! Perhaps one of them will tweet some smiley faces so we know all is well & can relax. .... INCOMPETENT BASTARDS !!!!
