Morning Peeps, A 2-1 loss at Cardiff, and it could have been a lot worse. Did anyone expect us to win? Where's Pugh gone??? There are a lot of questions that need answering. Is everyone happy with our back four, do we need to be playing with a defensive midfielder? Is Pearce a bit of a let down or are you happy with him??? McCormack is now likely to be out for a number of weeks, it has now been reported that Colin is likely to dip his toe into the emergency loan market. Talking of which, what is everyones opinion of Tonge, good signing or not? Hull make the short trip down to ER tomorrow, Im sure the few of them that make there way down will recieve a warm welcome. They have not beaten us since 2006, lets hope we can keep it that way Lets have a look to see how Warnock is doing, compared to our previous Managers during their first 20 matches Wilkinson: W10-D8-L2, win % 50. Graham: W6-D5-L9, win % 30 O’Leary: W11-D3-L6, win % 55 Venables: W7-D3-L10, win % 35 Reid: W6-D3-L10 (19 games only), win % 32 Gray (second stint): W6-D5-L9, win % 30 Blackwell: W6-D7-L7, win % 30 Wise: W6-D3-L11, win % 30 McAllister*: W11-D4-L5, win % 55 Grayson: W12-D4-L4, win % 60 Grayson in his last 20 league games: W9-D4-L7 win % 45 Warnock: W5-D5-L9 (after 19) win % 26, after Hull City could be 6-5-9 which would be a 30%, could be 5-6-9, could be 5-5-10 which would both be 25% .
And good Morning to all those joinin including Eire, Bucks, Simon, Ristac, Kissa (obviously), doc and all.... and lets not forget thombob and Leeds60
Good Morning elland I wouldn't say Pearce is a let down. While we are still conceding (even more so than last year I believe) we don't look like conceding every time the opponents have the ball, the difference is this season is that we have no one that can keep hold of possession so we are constantly under pressure. Same issue but for completely different reasons I believe, except this time its affecting our scoring as well
Morning all So far results are fairly as much as I expected. I don't expect more than a point from our next two placing us firmly in the bottom half of the table. I complained before and I shall do so again, pre-season we played non league garbage which disguised how poor we actually are. I am surprised that Warnock did that, he seems to be signing too many players he has worked with before and allowing them to play on 'reputation' alone. Reading his comments it seems that he had a choice of Danns, Jennas or Tonge - How many on this forum would have placed Tonge 3rd on that list?? No idea how good or bad Tonge played, from others comments on here in regards to 'if he rediscovers form' that he had under Warnock he will be good. Well that was 4 years ago and we seem to be signing far too many players who had a good season or two a long time back, Varney was another and look how poor he has been this season. To sum up the majority of players we have signed or been associated with - IF he rediscovers the form he had (insert years) back he will be okay...
Morning all. Frustrating thing is apparently there was no money a week ago for loanees. We pick up a couple of injuries and then money is made available seemingly. Why the hell not just give NW the money in the first place instead of waiting for injuries and then having to rush signings like Tonge. Haven't yet seen a report that rated him on Saturday but a bit too soon to judge. I really think we should be playing a reserve team against Everton next week. Let's face it, were going to be beaten anyway. Not much point in risking our first team players. They'll have had their full quota of footie for ten days by then
I know many will agree with you but can I ask why? Haven't we all seen enough to realise promotion isn't going to happen this season? Sorry to be a killjoy only 5 games in but I am judging us on performance over results, squad depth and general lack of quality and no funds.
and thats number wang... i guess until warnock is backed by bates we will never know how good he can be for leeds. he has pedigree at getting teams up but like grayson before him is working with one hand tied behind his back. cardiff were far too good for leeds on sat and i firmly believe that as things stand there is not way that leeds can go up. BTW i hope you do not mind my input, i generally lurk on the leeds board rather than post but the game was on tv on sat night so I was able to watch it and feel that i can offer an opinion. mot
Our squad is already down to the bare bones. With luck we're having, every chance of another injury this week. What we had on the pitch Saturday at the end of the match hasnt a cat in hells chance of beating Everton anyway. As things stand Ristac, we have no chance of promotion. However, if we can hang on close to playoff spot and if take over ever goes through, Warnock might just have the resources to finish the job successfully
Morning all I think the Defence looks much better. unfortunately there getting to much exposure from a midfield that fails to hold the ball up as well as they should do and theres no natural out ball to a wide player, unless Diouf is there as he appears to hold the ball up well. Put it this way, Cardiff are much better than us. They bloody should be with the money they threw at it. Same can be said about Blackpool to a certain extent as there funds have enabled them to keep hold of there players & add to it as well. Birmingham have started badly and we deserved to beat them, blackburn was a well battled point (wont be getting many more of them if our squad keeps dwindling) and a 2-1 win at posh was about right. I think Warnocks start is exactly what I would have expected and we should thank our lucky stars that the kids that have come in over the last few seasons have been up for it or we would really be in the ****. Bates out, Loans in to plug the gaps and lets get Elland Road roaring again. That way we may have a chance of a top 6 finish!
I used to hope for the same thing but early results would suggest that we are going to be a long way off the top 6 come January. Unless the mystery T/O happens sooner rather than later and NW can bring in some quality loan signings on the basis of a view to a permanent.
Morning Kissa Yep I think he has looked solid and so has Peltier bar the couple of mistakes against Blackburn! I thought Lees was unlucky to give a penno away against Cardiff and the ref was ****e. That being said it was a silly little tangle from the back so he knew the risk was there. Anyone still doubt Paddy? Best keeper in the league IMO
Morning all, Ristac, I know we're in bad shape at the moment, however, it's perhaps not as bad as you think. Not from our side, you understand, but the fact that this is probably the most competitive Championship season ever might stand us in good stead. There are few 'deffo wins'. There will be many shocks. Points will be dropped by all teams, and often at the most unexpected times. Almost all teams will hit a rough patch too. Come January, we might just be in touch with the top 6, mostly through the fault of others rather than by our own achievements. And if Warnock has money to spend in January, who knows?? I know you're reading this and thinking 'here speaketh an optimist', and to a certain extent you're right, but hey! - we've got a good core, defensively speaking, and with a little more time to gel, and a bit better organisation in midfield (and more stability), who knows what might happen? Keep the faith!! MOT
Bucks That foul throw was classic haha And he probably shouldve equalised but I like peltier and all the players seem to love the fans which is good rather than last year when they all had a go at the fans. Lees has been more assured with pearce pelts and drury. The saves Kenny made you would expect a keeper to make long range efforts althought the header was a class save
Good Morning, the current first choice 11-12 players are not bad. You can see what NW could have achieved with a bit more support. Basically its too thin. Top half finish, outside playoffs, and yet more Leeds youngsters running around in Manc and Chelsenal shirts (something that makes me weep) unless T/O happens and he gets some more funds. Not sure in fact if he could now get us better than a playoff place, even with funding, but you never know I suppose.
Morning lads Think the defence, as a whole, looks better. Although it can't be helping them settle when Drury is constantly on and off, he needs to get fit and stay fit. Peltier isn't a left back, and when White plays there Pearce spends half his time covering, or Austin has to come across and we lose him in the centre. Pearce looks fairly good, certainly no worse than the **** we've had there in recent years. Think Warnock, had the funds been available, would've preferred another CB alongside Pearce though, with Lees as cover. Kenny is by far the best keeper in the league and the best we've had since Martyn/Robinson Think Tonge looked okay on the ball, a bit too rusty though. Doesn't help him that when Rosco went off he had absolutely no movement to work with. So it was either sideways passing or lump up to Becchio, neither of which are going to make him stand out. We either need to sign a pacy striker to play off of Becchio if long ball is the way we're going to play, or we need to sign a Buszaky or someone with some level of flair and ability to make things happen. Without Rosco we're so one dimensional. On the whole, I think Warnock's signings are certainly no worse than average, but my god Varney is ****. He needs to sort it out, and fast.
The ankle injury Ross McCormack suffered at Cardiff on Saturday seems to be quite serious, and the medical staff will have to wait until the swelling goes down before they can even investigate exactly what the problem is. He will have a scan later in the week but he is unlikely to be back in action until mid-October at the earliest. This is obviously going to leave us very short of options up front, as Davide Somma is also unlikely to return from his own injury before the end of the month. Even before the McCormack injury Warnock was reported to be trying to get Stoke forward Cameron Jerome, so now he will be even more anxious to bring in another striker.
Sadly I suspect that lots of us will be making the same point throughout the season...squad too thin and not enough quality to get promoted...good enough for mid-table finish...dire need for some creativity... It absolutely does my head in that on Saturday we could have put out a team like Kenny Peltier Lees Pearce Drury Snodgrass Austin Howson Gradel McCormack Becchio which would have a decent chance of winning promotion. But we're not going to go far if we carry on selling our best players and replacing them with dross.
