Good Morning Everyone, Warnock came out last night to inform us that Becchio was tucked up in bed at home yesterday with a sickness bug. Reports were rife with rumours, some even saying that he was in Bournemouth watching Wigan play or he was at a hotel in Wigan (even more unlikely as the rest of the Wigan players and Management were in Bournemouth). A 2-1 victory at St Andrews last night in front of 10,000 fans have earnt us a big fourth round tie against Spurs. Having gone a goal down, a finish from McCormack and a spot kick from Diouff was enough to give us a rare victory against the Blues. Was this performance enough to keep Warnocks job safe for now? Were there any sparling performances? There were a few scary moments in the closing stages when Zidic and Lovenkrands came off the bench, but we managed to hang on. Birmingham v Leeds 8 Goal Attempts 10 5 On Target 3 4 Corners 6 12 Fouls 14 2 Yellow Cards 1 0 Red Cards 0 Lets hope that this is the start of long unbeaten run where our team show what they can do on the pitch.
McDermott told Sky Sports: 'Of course we're disappointed, we're very disappointed with the second-half performance, no one more so than the manager. 'It is a big disappointment because I'm sure the fans would have loved to have seen Tottenham playing here. We're disappointed. I think we're a bit more than disappointed actually; we're devastated really because we wanted a big game like that. 'Obviously it would have helped the club as well financially, but it's not to be.'
Morning Elland, morning those joining. Great result & one that will do a lot for morale, both on this site & around the club as a whole. One interesting comment from Warnock surrounding why we play so much hoofball & why we didn't last night. "....., we had to pass it around this evening more than usual because Becchio wasn't playing. We normally try to get it up to him as quickly as possible". Surely when you have Becchio playing, you should be looking to keep it on the floor & pass to his feet. He's not very big, & as such, isn't going to win ariel battles with hairy arsed 6ft plenty CBs. Good result all round, espcially as White appeared to have a fine game at LB & Lees/Peltier seemed to work as a partnership at CB. Saturday's selection should be interesting. We can assume that Becchio will probably return for Varney, but will Diouf or McCormack play as the other CF? Will Barclay return, & if so, who will drop?
Morning all. Nice to see gfh selling the tickets for 20 quid for the Spurs game. Shows a bit of initiative. Warnock strangely, a couple of days ago, said there were one or two transfers in the pipeline, one of them being an international. Wolves have said Doyle was one, who I'd love us to sign, but that we hadnt the finances or some such words. Warnock then says last night there are no others close to signing. Does he just make this stuff up during press conferences? I think last night win will ensure Warnock will see out his contract. No excuse for not picking the right manager next time, as gfh have five months to work on it
Morning all Ashdowns not a bad reserve keeper is he? Also I think our strongest back four & one we should stick with for a while is Byram Lees Peltier White. Not quite sure whats happened to Austin but I would start Barkley & Green in the centre. I dont like the way Becchio got blamed for the Barnsley result when he was fighting for scraps, I dont like the way he was 'ill' for this one & I dont like the way Warnock has said we were forced to pass more without him on the pitch. Not to mention Warnock said his head has been turned. I think Warnocks laying it on thick & Becchio is being touted about. I will be extremley ****ed off if we let yet another one of our better players go in this window. 17 goals in an under perfoming team speaks volumes Neil. STOP HOOFING IT TO HIM!
Morning all Good move from GFH to offer cheap(ish) tickets for the Spuds game. Hopefully it’ll mean a crowd of 30,000 rather than 20,000. Warnock’s comments about last night’s playing style are beyond the joke. The guy is an absolute dinosaur. I'm surprised he hasn't tried to re-sign Lee Chapman.
If I were Becchio hearing those comments, I think I'd tell Warnock to GFaM. That said, maybe last night was a lesson to Warnock to show what we can do when we keep the ball on the floor. Cheapish tickets for the Spurs game is a positive move. But we were always going to get 30k+ for that game, as Spurs themselves will bring up a shed load. I would have come up as well, but £60+ for a rail ticket means I'll be upsetting the locals in my local pub.... assuming it's got ESP phu**in' N. Hearing that Ashdown is doing so well suggests to me that we should get rid of Rachubka asap & promote Cairns goalkeeper to 3iC (AsHdown or Kisnorbo & then Cairns)
