Good Morning everyone, Austin is back in training and running!!! Hehas been out since suffering a cracked bone in his ankle in the home game with Watford a month ago. The Jamaican international was first feared to have fractured his leg in two places, something that would have brought an end to his season but scans revealed a crack in his ankle bone. The midfielder was expected to be out for around eight weeks, keeping him out until the New Year and Leeds assistant manager Mick Jones says his recovery is going well, something he puts firmly down to Austin. Should Austin go straight back in the starting team when fit? Davide Somma is likely to step up his comeback in a development league fixture next week after the weather denied him a competitive run-out on Tuesday afternoon. The South African international was due to play in an Under-21 game between Leeds and Wigan Athletic earlier this week but heavy rain in Lancashire rendered Wiganâs pitch unplayable. United are now planning to use Somma in a match against Birmingham City at Thorp Arch next Wednesday, moving the 27-year-old a step closer towards a first-team return. With recent crowds of just under 21,000 v Palace and 17,000 v Leicester, are we expecting home attendances to soar, know that the takeover is almost completed.
Morning Elland. If the Beeston Semplon continues along the tracks at an ever increasing speed, expect the crowds at various stations along the route to continue to swell. If there's a points failure at Derby central this weekend, we'll hang around the 20k mark. Me, I think we'll continue in our decent vein of form & get home 2-0. On Somma, great to see him back. But I wouldn't expect to see him even on the bench until the new year in order to give him as much game time as possible in the development squad. Warnock might also look to loan him out once he is fit to get him plenty of game time in a starting XI in League 1 or 2. On Austin, our current midfield seem to be doing a decent job. So as they say in Norfolk, if it ain't Brooke, d'nt fix it. Probably best to have him champing at the bit for a while on the subs bench. Putting him there as one almost guaranteed a starting spot when fully fit also keeps up the pressure on the rest of the central midfield to continue their good form.
Morning Boggers, I do like our midfield at the moment, Norris is our best ex Pompey player by far I'd say...
Well something's clearly working at the moment - less hoofball & more playonthefloor. Think having the surity of Tait tightening up the back 4 is helping. Should be top of our xmas signhimup list I think.
I agree with Boggers, stay with the winning team, and have a strong bench which shall in turn keep the players on the pitch on there toes, NW is no mug, look how he introduced McCormack last week, he knows when to put someone in the team......MOT.....upwards and onwards.
You really should read JA606 more, too, as its a fact on there that all players from Pompey have been a disaster
Morning all Elland good work on the merge threads. I was on my mobile or I would have done it myself! Lets keep an eye on it and see how it goes. Hopefully it will stop threads being highjacked & going off topic. Great news about Somma & Austin. Agree about Norris as well. I know he divides opinion but I said when we signed him he would be the one to watch Roll on the weekend, seems like we havent had a game in ages!
Morning all. Austin clearly made of serious stuff, others would happily stay on their sick bed for months and draw their salaries, the man clearly is a beast. On the crowd numbers, they are probably linked somewhat to the takeover. Anyone boycotting probably feel they shouldn't return till after 21st. After all, gfh have only managed to buy one third of the club yet with promises of what they are going to do after the 21st. The sceptics among us might say, lets wait and see. They are certainly not helping their case with the limited statements they have made. Better relations with the fans definitely needed when/if they finish the deal on 21st. Interestingly, I read somewhere yesterday, the FL still havent approved the deal. Thought ten days was to be the required length of time. Might the delay have something to do with more Cayman Island companies being involved
I actually would be pretty tempted to put Rudy back in the team but only when he is of fitness, do not rush him back. We still need the bite and lately we have played good footballing sides but when we play physical sides we will struggle with our current midfield I think without someone like him
Josh, with Cliffmas on the way & lots of games coming up on some iffy surfaces, I suspect Warnock will be in no rush to bring Austin back in only to lose him again through injury. Moreover, as we're winning & playing some decent stuff, there's even less reason to rush him back. Fingers crossed for Saturday. The Beeston Semplon is up, running & steaming ahead. Keep the faith. MOT
I personally think norris handles the physical side well, as does tonge. Only issue there is tonges loan is almost up. Brown still seems to have legs on him and is no stranger to the strong side of the game
Fair points all round Marko. Will be interesting to see whether or not we try to extend Tonge's loan or not. We have plenty of midfielders. So maybe we won't. But at least it will be Warnock & GFH who will decide whether or not to approach his parent club, rather than KB. So it should be a footballing decision, rather than one based purely on finance.
I'd extend Tonges loan. He looks good in the middle, but then again so does Norris Green & Austin. Brown can do a job as an enforcer as well. Its a tough one but a five goal return when he hadnt been match sharp is a great return. Good bit of business getting Tongey in & I would extend his loan until the end of the season
Morning All, Delighted to hear that Austin is on the way back. No need to rush him, for, quite apart from ensuring he makes a full recovery, we have a winning team that requires him to earn his place, and tbh, he could probably do with a rest as he started the season long before everyone else. Agree about Norris, but not sure if it's just a good spell, or if he'll be Mr. Consistent for us. Only time will tell. Got plenty of potential replacements now to keep him on his toes. Tongue. Now I was a little sceptical when we signed him at first, but I'm now a fan, and think that we shouldn't just extend his loan - we should sign him. He's creative, and we don't really have an abundance of creativity in midfield. He also knows exactly what NW wants, having played for him before.
Bucks I wanted to sign Norris a year earlier than we did, when we tried to sign him but couldnt afford his wages (but pompey did)
Yeah I kinda remember you saying about him Its only the exposure playing at Pompey that brought him to my attention as I know a few of there fans.
Looks like that scum bag the yellow peril has gone down http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/news/latest-news/top-stories/leeds-united-super-fan-jailed-for-raping-teenager-1-5199421 13 years! He probably wont get out at his age.
