Good Morning Everyone, Our cup run continuous win a 3-0 mauling against the super Saints. By all accounts Southampton were dreadful but you still have to bet what is in front of you, and apart from missing an open goal early on, we won comprehensively. Wouldn't it be great if we could draw Bradford at home in the next round!!! Who thinks we can get to the final? Shame we can't find our shooting boots for the league. Could this perfermance finally put our midweek hoodoo to bed? You may recall Revie (who was supersticious) employed a gypsy to spiritually cleanse the Elland Road in 1971 but unfortunately, having led the First Division for most of that season, they then ended up losing it. He would wear the same lucky blue suit for years. He had a superstitious fear of ornamental elephants and believing birds to be unlucky, he had an owl removed from the Leeds Club crest. Do you have any rituals or superstitions?
Morning ell Good win last night but I wonder if the general consensus is if you want an easy draw to progress as a Championship side usually does well in the League cup or if you want a big draw which there's more chance of at this stage of the competition?
Morning Kissa, Morning Steve, Yeah, I hope we get Bradford, they are punching WELL above their weight. If we put 6 past em, that would put them back in their place
Morning all Great win and a decent performance, but I still feel a bit flat. In real terms last night meant nothing to either of the clubs. Saints fielded a second string which means they have little depth and will probably be relegated now. We got a bit of revenge for the battering they gave us last season, but deep down we know we will not win this cup and the leagues too important this season. bates will love it as he sees his coffers grow again, and may not finalise the deal to sell until we're out of the cup.
Morning all I agree Doc, great win and all that but still leaves me feeling no overly ecstatic. In fact I'm a little pissed off that we only managed two points from the previous three very winnable league games playing utter garbage football, and yet we suddenly perform really well for the cup, which is nowhere near as important. Still, at least it shows we are capable of a good performance, and confidence will be up for Friday. Would be nice to transfer our cup form to the league and string a few wins together.
Morning LIE, That's always the age old thing though which teams struggle to do from cup to league but of course as a fan you can only hope
Morning all. Was that the first time Varney has played in what I hear is his preferred position, i.e. up top rather than out wide? If so, it'll put a bit of pressure on Becchio to step up. It might also help Warnock to instill in the players the concept of passing & keeping the ball on the floor. Arguably one of the biggest reasons for Becchio's dip in form is that we were lumping balls up to him expecting him to perform miracles against defenders markedly bigger than himself. The one thing that last night does give us is a bit more confidence. Yes, it was a rubbish Saints 2nd string. But you can only play & beat what's in front of you. 3-0 & a clear miss at the start that should have made it 4-0 suggests a good performance. The noise coming out of a 17k crowd also suggested that those who went enjoyed it too. All bodes well for Friday. As to the next round, who cares? But a home tie against Bradford would be fun. Anyone know if we were to get to the final & lose to a side in next season's CL whether WE would get a runners up spot in the Europa league or whether the Capital cup spot would go to the team that finished 6th in the PL? Heyho, we move on to a game that really matters on Friday, & in better fettle than might otherwise have been the case. I'm now going for us to grind out a 1-0 win.
Morning Steve mate If it carries on the way it has been in the league we'll be below your lot when we play you on the 18th
As everyone is mentioning our cup form, in comparison to the league. What pisses me off is that over the last 3 seasons we've seen some fantastic cup performances. We've seen AOB and Bruce play out of their skins against man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and this season another top defensive performance against Everton and a poor Southampton. Do these average league performers turn it on against pem sides to put themselves in the shop window for selfish reasons, and just do enough to get by in league matches, are they really that selfish?
Morning all Good win and performance even if it was against a poor side. I hope Varney gets another chance up front i've always thought he would be better there with his pace and skill compared to Becchio. He has more to offer up front if we try to play a passing game. I would have last nights team as my starting eleven for now and only switch players if needed. 'bates will love it as he sees his coffers grow again, and may not finalise the deal to sell until we're out of the cup.' Latest tweet from Ben Jacobs Ben Jacobs ‏@JacobsBen I will keep you posted overnight, but to reiterate the T/O deal between GFH/Leeds has today moved from lawyers to bankers #goodsign . Maybe the deal is finalised...dare to dream.
The sitter that Vaney missed, Paynter would have put away blindfolded. I reckon Batty would have even tucked it away . Saying that, I heard Varney played well....
Missed a sitter? Irritating, but who cares? We won & won well. Hall available for Friday. Varney to genuinely compete with Becchio for the 2nd striker slot. T/O apparently nearing its end as situation has allegedly moved from Lawyers to bankers; i.e. the money maybe moving. So it really could be happening very soon. All in all, a good day to be a Leeds fan.
