A group of Leeds United fans who staged an eye-catching protest at Elland Road say more stunts are planned in their campaign against club owner Massimo Cellino. The Time To Go Massimo group beamed a series of anti-Cellino messages onto the stadium’s East stand before and during Monday’s goalless draw against Middlesbrough. They said they are now planning an aeroplane fly-over at a forthcoming home game and told supporters to “watch this space” for as they plot other stunts. Tom Banks, one of the organisers, said: “We had an idea that Monday night’s protest was going to be pretty good but it went way beyond our expectations. “We thought it looked fantastic and the feedback we got from everybody was that they thought the same, the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. There’s been no negative reaction, so from that perspective it couldn’t have gone better.” Time To Go Massimo launched their campaign on Thursday by funding a poster installed on advertising hoardings outside the East Stand calling for Cellino to go. Leeds took legal action to have the poster removed, but the group said it informed police and took legal advice before Monday night’s stunt. “We did wonder why we went so big so quickly because it will be hard to follow,” Mr Banks said. “What we do next will most likely be at the home game against Bolton (on March 5). We want to keep up the momentum. “We think the projection will have empowered fans to make their voice heard. We have some more ideas, including a fly-over.” What do we think of the protests? Damaging? an eye opener? Well organised? Embarrassing? Over to you, and morning by the way!
Morning Bucks. All this anti-Cellino protesting is all well and good, but IMO it's only going to antagonise him even more and I can see him digging his heels in and dragging this club further into ****. He doesn't need to sell, he certainly doesn't seem the type of egotistical maniac that would be forced to sell up by some stunts by these protesters. If and it's a big if, he does sell up, we still have those other clowns holding 25% and the new owners would mean we'd have to start all over again. So all I see is another long summer of bollox at the club and even more bollox next season... Thank **** the boys in green will give me some light entertainment over the summer...
Morning all. I'd much prefer an 'oust the house' campaign to rid us of GFH. My perception is that they are the biggest parasite. Sitting there waiting for a return on every one else's hard work, while previously shafting the club with extortionate loans.
How many of these Cellino out people were the ones begging the football league to let him in? I'm neither cellino out or cellino in tbh no matter who is in charge we continue to have a divide, I'm not sure what it would take to have us all happy and heading in the same direction.
We will always be divided whilst still in the championship, simple. 14 years now and seem to be getting further away from promotion as tv money rises and creates an ever larger divide in finances. We need an owner who can get us out of this league, said owner will be a legend a hero and will always be revered. Fans will unite behind this owner and yes we'll complain about signings, tacticws, selection etc but a united United
In regards to the protest, they are eye catching, they obviously have some financial backing and they are being well planned. I don't think they have as much support as they would like, by support I mean fans willing to actively do something. I do believe most fans would like Cellino to sell up and go but to who? The fans in the ground on Monday certainly didn't seem to care about any protest, I think they were enjoying a decent display and effort. I want Cellino and GFH gone tomorrow but it isn't going to happen unless someone like Redbull are waiting to step in. A win in the cup and a couple more displays like we had against Boro and fans will soon forget the protests. Sadly there isn't an answer. Maybe a change of tact, rather than protest about Cellino out protest for more signings, investment and backing of the manager. On another note, I have just read a surprising statistic that claims; "since our return to the Championship we’ve never had this few points after 31 games. This season compared to our relegation season from the Championship we have won fewer games at this same stage. We have scored 5 less goals at this same stage. The important statistic is, we have conceded 22 fewer this time around resulting in 10 extra drawn games.
Morning Doc, do you ever see as as challenging for the top 4 again? The size of the club in terms of staduim for income hardly makings a difference now with skys money getting pumped in, so will we ever be a major player again?
I think most will agree we played well against boro but we only managed two shots on target. To be honest, I am quite surprised we are only 5 goals behind last seasons total. Thank god Evans got the Duke looking interested.
Bucks this season has been a freak when you look at the top 4. You normally factor in Chelsea, Man Utd and Liverpool making a complete different picture. The only time I see us ever been able to go for a top 4 spot would be another freaky season when 3 millionaire clubs fail badly or if we had a billionare owner
My thoughts exactly . Its been refreshing but to be honest I can see Leicester swapping positions with Chelsea next year.
Afternoon all, I was at the match on Monday, but didn't see the 'protest'. Yes, there were projections on the ESU, but it only takes one person to do that. Anyone got any idea of the number of protesters there were? Where did the protest take place? I'm not quite sure what they're trying to achieve. Yes, they want Cellino out, but what then? Will Cellino be forced to sell to GFH? Will we get a committee of skint local attention-seekers trying to be the next Publicity Pete? Have they been in touch with potential buyers like LUST were when trying to oust Bates? (Which oddly enough got them more criticism than any of their failings!). Have they got some sort of strategy and list of objectives, or is it just a lurch from one big idea to the next without thinking through the consequences of their actions. My real fear is that if Cellino is as crazy as some have suggested, he might fling 2 fingers up at us & sell to GFH, another load of shysters, or sit back & watch us sink into non-league, having sold all our assets & signed part-time journeymen to go through the motions. The most worrying thing about the 'non-league' possibility is that he'd probably get his money back whilst screwing the fans & GFH at the same time. Win, win, win. Sadly. I hope these protesters know what they're doing. You can say many things about Bates, but one thing is certain - he was far, far more stable & predictable than Cellino has ever been. That's the key factor that hasn't been fully thought through, and it worries me greatly that it could lead to the end of the road for us. That's why I get so passionate & try to rebut all these nonsense stories on here & nip them in the bud. The possibilities scare the bejaysus out of me.
Selling to GFH Would that make the club easier to sell on though as they would be the full owner? Not that I would EVER want that to happen as I would be worried they would destroy us in the meantime, just a possible positive?
I think you've raised a very important point, Lee. I'm sure that the fact that they're potless has made things very difficult for Cellino. By the looks of it, they want him to do all the spending without them chipping their 15% (or whatever it is). That might go some way to explaining why we haven't bought ER back, or why Cellino has structured his investment to be loans only (rather than 'normal' investment.
