Another thread on his future! I thought he had a very good game today up to when he got injured. He won a lot of the balls and put a lot of effort in, for me.
worked harder than many suggest he does, but is filling an important spot in the squad without the necessary quality to show for it. For me he needs to be sold sooner rather than later, as his value will drop the longer we hold on to him.
Yes, I agree. I'd sell him in January, for his sake as well as ours. Sadly, I think maybe we should sell Jackson, too. I have a much higher opinion of him than many people on here seem to have, but he just doesn't seem to suit our system any more. Again for his own sake, I think it would be better if he got game time somewhere else.
Both players are well up to Championship football but probably out of their depth at the top.Wonder if Mick has any cash?
I disagree about Jackson. I think he could probably cut it at Premiership level but not in a 4411 system or a 451. 442 is almost universally rejected now, it seems, by Prem clubs, which I think may be the system best suited to him as a player.
On the understanding that Morison has only started a few games his score tally of two goals is poor. Agree he needs to go sooner than later but with Jackson he is a victim of CH's change to 4-4-1-1. He would do sterling service to a Championship side who need a goal poacher. Would like to see another striker in January; rumour has it that we are going to bid for CMS again! Not sure he is big enough for the lone striker role. Joseph Mulenga - another striker rumoured to be in CH's sights is a more powerful player but both would be a great asset to the team. Not sure how much playing time they would get behind Grant Holt as first choice but perhaps a rotation policy would work?
I think yesterday showed the vulnerability City have if Holt is injured. I also thought Morison did well yesterday, but when he went off with a thigh injury suddenly we were down to Kane, who has just come back from injury himself. I can't see CMS fitting into the present system. Mulenga might, with his pace and strength, and he does have the advantage of being able to play out wide as well, but the rumours about him now appear to be a hoax. Danny Graham is another possibility, but he lacks pace, IMO. I would prefer to see Morison stay and another strong, pacey striker with a good goal-scoring record added in place of Chris Martin. At least then we would have sufficient cover should further injuries occur.
any striker we buy must have pace. we must be one of the slowest teams in the PL, at least if E Benno or Simeon are not playing, as was really evident against Chelski.
I think Jackson could quite easily deputise for Pilkington on the left wing should he get injured or suffer a dip in form. I know Surman has deputised in the past but he has a tendency to drift "inside" so we lose our natural shape. I think Jackson would make a good winger, he has pace to burn, is confident taking people on and possesses a good cross. I seem to remember Hughton playing him on the left wing for a pre-season game and I seem to remember him acquiting himself quite well. He's also tenacious in the tackle with an excellent workrate so would help Garrido out at the back when needed. Just a thought.
I might be in the minority but I thought Morison was woeful yesterday. He didn't know where to run. His movement was slow and predictable and he was too easy to control. It is not his fault. He is a Championship player. He did reasonably well last season but has shown nothing this season. Last season I defended him when he took a bit of stick but reality bites and I'm afraid he is not good enough. We showed yesterday that we can change things and do OK. The introduction of Howson in place of a slightly out of form Tettey changed our impact completely. But we don't seem to be able to do that up front. I didn't think a striker was top priority in January several weeks ago but now I think it is the top priority.
I've been chirping on about this forever, his touch and passing are nowhere near good enough, he's an aerial target and thats it, he's not equipped with the skills to play up front on his own.
Hi all, Gillingham fan in peace Still only seems like yesterday being at the 2009 League 2 Play-Off Final where both Grant Holt and Simeon Jackson were up against each other. Both deemed the deadliest strikers in the league at that time. Anyways the best way to utilise Jackson would be to use 4-3-3 and play the passing game. So basically how Arsenal try to play every match. But when you have people like Holt in your team I don't suppose 4-3-3 would ever be used by yourselves.
I think he needs a new start elsewhere, his great aerially and strong but he hasn't got the technical ability or the pace for this level. We need two forwards and decent ages too at least one who will succeed Holt as our main forward.
