- Morgan Schneiderlin averages 4.8 tackles and 4.3 interceptions per game. More than anyone else in the league [combining the two stats]. - Morgan Schneiderlin has made the most interceptions in the league this season with 27 despite missing a whole game through injury. - Morgan Schneiderlin covers more ground per game on average than any player in the Premier League. Also I'll throw this one into the mix - Adam Lallana is a joint assist leader in the league (4 assists) with Eden Hazard and Juan Mata. Actually two more - There's been 7 players booked for celebrating a goal in the league this season. Three of our players (Fox, Clyne, Fonte) have been booked for this. - We put our the youngest side in the league (24.00 average age) in match day 6 vs Everton. (One more game than Morgan Schneiderlin but playing in more advanced positions and less defensive minded roles so still very impressive.)
We must have the highest goal to shirt off ratio! Back to the original point: Morgan's been class for the last couple of years and we really missed him against Everton, he hasn't really been noticed by other Premier League teams yet which is good. Lallana's back to his creative best, last season we relied on our full backs for assists and now he seems to be the player who does the clever passes which lead to goals. If he starts scoring consistently this season, then I should see no reason why he shouldn't be regularly called up to the England squad.
You're right. I think I started to type something about Fonte's celebration and left that in there by mistake instead of just 'celebrating a goal'.
Morgan isn't just first in the Prem but also second in Europe's top five leagues in combined tackles and interceptions per game. And again in the top five leagues there is only one player in either the top 10 for average tackles or interceptions (of which there is only one other player other than Morgan that features in both) that has a higher pass success than Morgan. And I very much doubt any of those players has faced anywhere near the quality of competition that we have in our opening games. Combine that with his ground covered and you have one of the finest young holding midfielders in Europe! Hurray for us.
If Morgan keeps it up, and the rest of the team play to their strengths they'll soon put anyone's relegation concerns to rest
I've been converted to agree that he is a great player but is anyone else surprised that less that 5 tackles per game is a high statistic....there must be several players in that league rarely making a tackle....whatever happened to the mid-field destroyer?
Remember they have to be proper tackles and proper interceptions. Not scenario's where the opponent loses control or simply throws it away with a hacked clearance, dreadful pass etc. If you watched the England game tonight I can tell you the most interceptions made by a San Marino player was 4 and the most tackles was 2. For England it was 3 interceptions and 3 tackles.
I'm just glad Morgan and Gaston didn't get injured at the same time. One out we could cope with, not so sure about both.
Morgan is a sublime player. We're building quite a potent team here, once we click properly, we will win plenty of games.
When he first came to us, I thought that he would be more suited to an advanced position, with his power and range of passing. Has he changed or has he been moulded into a more defensive midfielder?
