I scincerely hope i'm wrong but i beleive there's more to naill Quinns decision to leave the club just when things have taken a turn for the better.(bruce gone oneill in).Perhaps the straw that broke the back the low attendance against the Arsenal.Having tried to get the support back i think he'd done as much as he could and thought he would give his family the time he afforded to us.
i think you should read a my previous posts,i have an opinion and i choose to air them on this the SUNDERLAND SUPPORTERS board, plain and simple.
This^^ All about opinions like... The attendance against Arsenal (for one of the biggest games of the season) was appalling agreed (I couldn't make it due to work) but I don't think that Niall Quinn would leave simply because of that
Quinn said when he came here it would be for 5 years but luckily we squeezed another year out of him. End of.
think he was aiming that at sunderpitt .................. You're reading too much into it, Quinn always said 5 years so I am glad we got 6 out of him. Quinn is happy with who with have on the SAFC board now (Short and Byrne) and Quinn has finally got his 1st choice manager to join us, so what better time to leave than when his job is done (SAFC stable, safe and in good hands which was always Quinns aim)?
I think the whole foreign affairs correspondent gig was for us fans. If he had just left there would have been out cry, so instead he goes on "gardening leave" in all but name and the fans get used to the idea he isn't chairman and a year later he steps down from that role. He left a year ago really.
I agree with the idea that he took Gardening leave but think that he stayed about to ensure that the club was in good hands and stable hence why he left now instead of before xmas when Bruce was still in charge. I feel that he was influential in bringing MON to Sunderland and has left us in a good postion.
I agree his new role was a bit of a smoke screen which makes his leaving now even more curious. As the club have stated he isn't even going to be replaced, his role will apparently be absorbed by others. So hardly the most time intensive job. I would say Quinn has probably been spending the majority of his time in Ireland for quite a while so his reasons for leaving (family, new business interests) just doesn't make sense to me. Nor does leaving in February.
Everyone loves a conspiracy theory but Quinn strikes me as a top lad who probably wants to spend time with his family. No harm in that.
Not a big conspiracy fan myself, so I'll stick to the "he is now happy with who is running the club and the manager" line, which is why he is happy to leave now
He came in to do a job, a job which he has done with great aplomb. He now wants to try something else. It happens to all of us, we move on.
I always thought Sunderland were very lucky to have Niall Quinn, he's a thoroughly decent man, his type seem to becoming more rare in football these days. He's served the area well, this can be seen at the Sunderland hospital he made donations to.
