There are parcels of land around there, some owned by the BBC. Westfield has opened up a lot of potential and we would be looking for a stadium of 40-45,000."... Fernandes does not rule out sharing.
40-45,000!!!!! Wow, must be aiming for a multi-purpose venue with plenty of revenue generating potential, a share (but with who - too small for Chelsea, too big for the rest of West London, please not rugby again) or slashing ticket prices so that generations of missing R's fans emerge from the woodwork. At least we would not have all of this loyalty points hassle....
I would of thought buying & developing the Linford Christie Stadium on the Scrubs would be a good option.
We have pretty much the best transport links of any London club in Shepherds Bush and almost West End cache now that Westfields is here so we should aim to keep it that way to attract the casual and tourist markets. I'm sure Fernandes knows that (just as Briatori did but failed to deliver). Having the ground next to a prison and away from the transport hubs is not really going to work in that respect.
Having thought about it, an attractive location, great facilities and competitive prices would I am sure attract more local and visiting punters. But as Aaaagh says has to be in the right place - watch out for the Holland Park nimbys! Still, another 20,000 to fill it???
Your point is Cernophil? You're a mate of Mihir Bose? He shares his scoops with you so you can drop cryptic clues on fans forums? Sorry, yet again you have lost me....
Why not? If for 'Hate' reasons. This just wouldnt stand up in my opinion. AC and Inter, along with Roma and Lazio. THese rival fans cant stand each other but a ground share just works! - Case and point.
I think if a share is on the cards it will be with Fulham, they'd get a fortune for their ground and we'd make plenty from ours. However, I do get the feeling that if that could be avoided it would be a far better option...
I'd be happy to share if it meant we got a new ground and better , cheaper facilities. Italians have been doing it for years and it works for them.
Good enthussiam as ever from Tony... I'm not too sure that his memory serves him well though as I don't think Stan Bowles was still playing for QPR in 1982... Perhaps he accidentally caught the 237 from Goldhawk Road and ended up in Brentford. Anyway, 40 to 45k stadium is definately pretty ambitious, but who knows! U Rssss!
Re sharing I lived in Milan for 4 years and was a season ticket holder with AC for 3 of these (Gullit/ Van Basten era). No problems ground sharing with the Interisti, and the rivalry was as intense as anything in England (not going near Glasgow). each team took opposite ends of the San Siro as 'home' ends, so even at derby games you were in your normal place. Lot of tear gas in the piazza after though....as there also was for games against Napoli and Lazio. Main problem was the pitch was no good, mainly due to height of the stands - no sun got on it. For QPR though I am struggling to think of who we would share a 40.000 + seater with......
Let's face it, nobody could really hate Fulham. But I think the problem for them just as it will be for us is the attitude of the borough council. Didn't they already stop them selling the ground for housing and then stopped them from developing Craven Cottage in the way they wanted? Even for Fernades and Al Fayed there is not a snowball's chance in hell of building a new ground in Central London unless you can leverage maximum value on your existing one.
If we do share with Fulham do we get Mick Jackson looking down on us in front of the ground, I think Freddy Mercury was a R's fan so we could have him bare chested holding a cut down mic, sounds great!!
Dont let Spurs know were thinking of a new stadium they will wait for it to be built and then try to hijack it
Apparently they are now going to re-develop White hart lane - must have milked the Olympic stadium uncertainty and riots for an extra £20 million off Boris!
