Evening all, long time no speak... I went to the Gate this afternoon full of the usual pre-seaon optimism but was a little surprised to see that none of the new players were starting. Ipswich weren't anything special and we only lost 3-0 as a result of 2 horrific blunders by DJ and a poor ball given away by CS but this isn't really the point of this article, what I want to talk about is how we played. All last year, KM's supporters were insistant that we should not judge him until he had his own players in and a full pre season under his belt. Well, here we are in that situation and its deja vue, all over again - granted one game does not a season make however it was the manner of the performance that concerns me. We saw nothing new, there is still;- a). no shape to the team b). no defined pattern of play c). few players seemed to know what they should be doing d). we are still hoofing it from the back Lets face it, a lot of people (me included) were looking forward to seeing the promised new start, some different, something new but sadly, all we got was exactly the same old dross as last year. KM has learned nothing at all and with 2 tough away games to come, there is every prospect that we will be sat on 0 points after 3 games with a demoralised squad and a manager who doesn't have a clue what to do about it As for Nicky, some said he was disinterested today - I disagree, he just suffered the same old crappy service as usual to the point that towards the end of the first half, he dropped back into midfield, beat a few players and then played a blinding through ball to Stead just to show our lot how to do it Sadly, he is wasted here - until we get a manager who can create a formation capable of creating decent opportunties for him (and our other strikers), he'll continue to be frustrated and frankly, if we are bottom with 0 points from 9, I won't blame him for leaving at all as he'll score 30 goals plus in a decent team, like Leicester SL, the writing is already clearly on the wall in 10 foot high letters, for the good of the club, KM must go now...
Hi Shiny, I would like someone who can organise a team (defence in particular) and get us playing football. It was so obvious that there was no organisation, all I saw was panicky defenders hoofing the ball from the back as soon as an opponent came anywhere remotely near them. No really a game plan is it... I mean it seems fairly obvious to me that when everyone puts 2 men on Albert, this leaves someone else unmarked but, we never seem to take advantage of this fact. Its not rocket science and seems something a decent manager would use to his advantage.. Of the players today, Spence was great, CS was ok, Marv was intermittant but ok at times and Albert started to look dangerous in the last 20 minutes. Kilkenny looked quality when he eventually came on, no one else really showed much.
I have little faith in Keith I am afraid. However, I also have equally low expectations that Colin Sextone would have the first clue who to bring in to replace him. Look at Ipswich - they appointed an experienced manager with a track record who knows what he's doing. And it is showing already. There is little point in throwing money at a manager who doesn't really know what to do with it and I don't blame SL for closing his wallet. Keith isn't a bad judge of players based on his buys to date but he isn't buying to a plan - there is no sign of a system or structure and him buying the right pegs to fit into it. He just seems to pick up players he thinks seem to be good value. We have added several new players to the squad who won't get in on a regular basis. If they aren't good enough for the first team it's just a waste of money. He says the squad is too big then adds more "squad" player - not first teamers. I really am losing any confidence that things will improve - judging by the crowd so are a lot of the fans. The team has hardly changed from last year except our defence is a year older (and in the case of JM and LC a year slower). Why do we think it will be any different to the so-so rubbish we got last year? So I think we are in a bad place - a manager who will take us nowhere and a board who haven't exactly got a track record in picking new managers. Sextone plays the "bedminster lad" card all the time but what we really need is a hard-nosed, football savvy realist on the board who will get us the right man to take the club forward. Moan over (until the next defeat!).
Prem,thank god you've joined us,sanity prevails,welcome back and I agree with you,not suprising really...
'Prem, thank god you've joined us,sanity prevails' Wiz - would have been better if Prem had said this BEFORE today. You don't need to be kicked in the b*lls to know it hurts. Been saying it forever and today..... Where's the new 'Caulker' or LB. 2 Left footed CHs - UNBELIEVABLE. No Cisse in front back 4. Not ONE of our genius manager's signings this summer selected. Pitman came on - played wide left. Millen is absolutely CLUELESS. Watched a bit of Blackpool last night. Hull looked like us - useless - anywhere will do. Blackpool's way(last night at least)/Swansea's way of playing is the way forward. We're in the Dark Ages.
Hello Robin, Wiz and RP - I joined in January but I hadsome PC problems (computer, not politically correct) and I decided to stay off the boards for a while..! However, I felt compelled to come on here today after the anticipation of a fresh start, something new and a reason to be optimistic was so brutally extinguished with an iron fist. It is clear that our manager has learned nothing and still has no clue about tactics. I heard him say on BBC last night that "we are prepared" however, I'm afraid it takes a little more than being fit to win games at this level. Not that this is all his fault though, you have to ask what we are paying Wiggley for, I thought he was supposed to be the tactician but we have little semblance of a plan. 20p critised a City fan for betting against the City this afternoon but as he said, if you see a certainty, you don't ignore it. After today, I would be putting all my life savings on us being relegated, the only thing that is stopping me is the fact that the board might see sense and act before it too late. Some will say that this is reactionary and ridiculously premature however some of us are able to see what is so clearly going to happen if no action is taken, Mr Sexstone...
Forget football tactics, Millen doesn't seem to have the man management skills to actually motivate and inspire a team of people to at least fight like their lives depend on it. I don't mind if City lose, provided they give it their all. One game in and it sounds like the same old, same old excuses
There were lots of good (and unemployed!) managers around when Johnson was sacked, but in typical BC fashion we took the cheap and easy route, and now it's hitting the club where it hurts. I.E in the pocket basically because people aren't stupid enough to fall for the predictable rhetoric. 13,000 yesterday against half decent opposition (who themselves brought more fans with them than a lot of teams will) on the opening day tells its own sad but predictable story. If you take the fans and support for granted, make stupid judgements and employ a faceless, clueless, non entity to head it all up then this is the result. Day 1 - Millen Out
Considering how long Millen has been at the club and involved in the management I have never really bought into this own team rubbish. I can not believe that he he not had input into the team and who to bring in, especially defenders considering he was a Defender! He should know how to get best out of them, especially defence as it has been the same faces for the 3 or 4 years. If he is saying the defence is so poor what has he been doin for the time he was assistant?.... Have just see the goals in sky sports one phrase comes to mind WTF!!!
'Bristol City weren't 3 goals worse than us. That's for sure. If your keepers going to come out twice, arguably when he didn't for at least 1 if not both and doesn't get there, then problems will arise..... Of course they were! All this about how they gave away bad goals is just bollocks. All goals condeded are bad the difference is we now have a top quality striker who can stick away the chances presented. Yes it was a cracking performance yesterday and we beat Bristol at a canter. Lets not spout this crap about how 3-0 flattered us! I know cos I was there! ' This is how an Ipswich fan viewed our performance yesterday a bit different from Keefers slant, doesn't it make you proud to be a City fan... We were that BAD I know cos I was there!...
should have sold us maynard when you had the chance, you could have bought a couple of players with the 5 mil
What makes you think we have lost the chance..? Sven is still talking about getting another striker in this week.... In fairness to Nicky, he has done what we asked and agreed to stay, probably to see how we get on and make a judgement however, unless something changes dramatically in the the next 2 league games, there will be no reason for him to stay and I for one would not accuse him of deserting the ship - he's lucky, at least someone wants him and he can get away from the useless management here....
We know, i've been saying this ALL summer! instead were going to lose Maynard for nothing and STILL have a **** defence! the board havent got a clue.
