Paul Gascoigne was quoted in The Sun today as having Arsenal pay for his medical treatment, while Spurs charged him for Champions League tickets.
The piece was clearly designed to promote one club and bash the other, painting one as generous and selfless and the other as heartless and stingy.
It was widely reprinted across the media, being jumped on by other papers, websites and the like.

Unfortunately it doesn't tell the whole truth and Gazza's had to come out and point that out, via Reuters:

"I want to correct comments quoted in The Sun this morning – I have ended up thanking the wrong people and causing upset – never my intention," he said.
"The ones who have funded my treatment over many years and have always been there for me are Tottenham Hotspur and their Tribute Trust."
"It has also always been the case that whenever I have needed tickets I have spoken to my skipper Gary Mabbutt and Tottenham have always sorted it out for me, so I want to correct that too."
"I want to make sure that Spurs and their fans know that I recognise that they have always been there for me."

Something tells me that the press won't be quite so quick to jump on that story, though.

Fair play to Arsenal and Wenger for coming to his aid. Nice of them not to even mention it, too.

Arsewipe red top paper invents another story. I doubt there will a retraction. Perhaps one of their competitors will take Gazza's part up?

  4. If the story is blatantly wrong, the Press Association ought to hold them accountable. Also, THFC might be able to sue for defamation, if the story tends to lower the reputation of the club in the minds of right-thinking persons.

I'm not sure the story will be blatantly wrong. The Sun are the experts on using weasel words, sparse punctuation and just not using enough words to tell the whole story.

The Sun doesn't say that Spurs didn't help with treatment or money.

THFC only had two tickets left. £60 a ticket sounds like a bargain. He wanted the best seats but that wasn't possible.

He reminds me of George Best with the way hes going..you cant help those that cant help themselves first.

Spurs have helped him alot..maybe Lazio, Boro and Newcastle to name a few could 'help' him too.

The FA could chip in with their bit, too.
