    More of the same really, Pards wants to keep Barton...

    According to SSN...

    Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has vowed to do all he can to keep Joey Barton at the club.

    The midfielder's contract is not due to expire until the end of next season, but talks regarding an extension are already in the pipeline.

    Once Premier League survival has been secured this term, the Magpies plan to sit down with the likes of Barton and Jose Enrique and thrash out new deals.

    Pardew hopes for positive outcomes from those talks, with it important for the club to retain the services of their key men.

    Summer arrivals are expected, helping to bolster the ranks, but retaining the core of the squad will be just as crucial to future progress.

    Barton is seen as a key figure for Newcastle heading forward, with another all-action display in Saturday's 4-1 victory over Wolves further underlining his value to the cause.

    "It's important to keep your best players - and our best players showed up on Saturday, big style," Pardew told the Evening Chronicle.

    "We had some outstanding performances within that team on Saturday - Joey Barton was one of them."

    Barton and fellow midfielder Kevin Nolan were among those to play with slight knocks on Saturday and Pardew has been quick to praise the commitment shown to the collective cause at St James' Park.

    He said: "We had a lot of medical problems, but we managed to patch people up, and get over the line. Not only did the team play well, but my staff have been brilliant this week."

    I appreciate what he's saying, we all seem to feel the same about Joey but they've both said publicly that they plan to wait until the summer before agreeing a new contract. Why bring this up again if there's nothing new to say?

    We've known for months that we're waiting until the summer or safety to discuss contracts with Jose.

    Sometimes silence is the best policy.

    I think it's more a case of Journos haven't got much to ask him so continue to bring up the same tripe.

    I love Barton and Jose, but Tiote is the one i really want to keep out of all of them because he's one of a kind. You can buy another LB and another creative mid, but you can't buy a Tiote :)

    Barton says he wants to spend the rest of his career here, and i believe him, but lets see what happens.

    I think there's a 50/50 chance of Jose staying.

    I disagree, I can think of plenty of questions ie;

    *What the **** is going on with Haris Vuckic & Tamas Kadar?

    *Have you identified any transfer targets for the summer?

    *How is John Carver settling in?

    *Do you plan to offload any players in the summer?

    *What is your favourite colour?
