I take it some of you have been reading his blog http://blogs.channel4.com/alex-thomsons-view/rangers-coming/1088 I don't use twitter but apparently today he's tweeted that he's meeting UEFA to discuss the involvement in the Rangers case of a certain Mr Salmond and other politicians (Murdo Fraser or whatever he's called wrote to the administrators apparently) which directly contravenes UEFA's rules. I've also seen documents (they're on my phone, though) which were released under an FOI request made about Salmond's dealing with Rangers - the letters released (not emails) were all fairly mundane - congratulating Rangers and Smith personally on their league win etc etc but.... he has denied access to the FOI request regarding communications between his office and Rangers around finances and between his office and HMRC. ST might be the best chance we have of inside info here but Salmond previously stated that he HAD been in contact with HMRC discussing a potential deal for Rangers - he is refusing the FOI request on the basis that it would "harm relations between the Scottish Government and Westminster". This is all getting very intriguing indeed The PDF files can be downloaded from http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/the_first_minister_and_tax_owing#incoming-267910
Without wanting to sound paranoid I would be interested to know if Alex Salmond is in the habit of writing such sycophantic drivel to every manager in Scotland who wins something. Regarding the correspondence that was not released I smell a rat. Why would any correspondence "be likely to prejudice substantially relations between the Scottish and UK Governments"? It's only a guess but if the the Scottish government said that they would talk to HMRC on Rangers' behalf then they would be undermining an HM Government agency. Was anyone else thinking the same way as me? I can't imagine any other reason relations between the two Governments would be harmed.
This against uefa rules and dangerous for us , if the government are seen helping Rangers , ALL Scottish clubs will be barred from Europe and Scotland from the World Cup
