A bloke I work with told me today that he found about a grand in banknotes from the 90's under floorboards.

A quick glance on line thinks I'm asking about the recently redundant notes and deadlines, does anyone know if they can be exchanged for new currency?

I assure you, this is a bloke I know, not me.

    Ta.

He should phone up the Bank of England and ask. Or just take it down to his local branch and ask there.

Presumably he is feeling no ethical ambiguity about the potential source of the dosh.

Doubt it. He says the house belonged to someone, now deceased. It was locked up in a box and stuffed under the floor. Arguably, the deceased's family could be contacted etc, but he won't.

I've spent 20 years hoping for some under the floor treasure - nothing - except some old newspapers, which are fascinating.

Cheers Stan. How's your son doing?

I believe if the notes are old then they are worthless

Keep hoping for the same as I excavate cellars in France ... hamlet was used to hide people/ valuables from the nazis

Cheers mate, he’s fine, back at work, think they have him on light duties, painting etc rather than installing RSJs and heavy joinery. Back to see the plastic surgeon in January. He’s also had a couple of all nighters since the incident, so is clearly not afraid of going out and about.

Personally, I would be tempted to make a large collage with the old notes and hang it in the downstairs bog. Or just staple them together and go down the pub, wave the wad about and shout ‘loadsamoney’.

Especially good when you realise you're out of bog roll.

    Glad he's on the mend.

    From money saving website....

Important part - "Old banknotes retain their value for all time, so while you can't use them in shops, you can return them to the Bank of England or to most major banks and get a new polymer banknote in exchange."
