Just realised something on your avatar (if that's the right term) Vetch. Always wondered what "bertari" was - that's how it appears on my screen. A brand of Italian sportswear or something? Anyway, just realised it's "Libertarian" without the front and the end (obviously not enough room to display the whole thing)
Vetch I too fail to understand why we didn't stand our ground. We had ourselves a player desired by the richest clubs in World football....in my opinion you set a price and you don't entertain even a conversation with another club until the price is met. We didn't need the money, he was happy to stay, if anything he was improving as a footballer the more time went on...we held the cards FFS! After reading a load of bollocks about poor billionaires Man City, they're constrained by FFP etc....As soon as it looks as though Bony is in the bag they are linked with further £20m+ bids for further January transfers. (Must admit that I don't believe Monk has much input in these matters mind, however, this does make him look a bit foolish when he told the press bids had to start at £30m)
Man.City wanted Bony so badly, yet the powers that be let them dictate the finances. I don't get it. With regards Monk, this thread is pure tongue in cheek. He should have kept his mouth shut regarding any prospective fee.and,I agree,he has made himself look a tad foolish. I was bit concerned when we signed Bony for £12,000,000.00,but hey, what do I know.
I don't understand why Monk is being blamed. Didn't Laudrup publicly put a price of £20M on Michu a while back? It's what managers do sometimes. Doesn't mean anything as it's what happens in negotiations that counts. A lot of people seem upset by the fee but I don't see it.
Miggins there are a few Laudrop Sycophants on here, and nothing Monk will do will be good enough, he after all stabbed Laudrop in the back didn't you know that? And the buggers will never forget.................
I don't think Monk is being "blamed",per se,but since he went public by insisting Bony would not be sold for less than £30,000,000.00,guess what, the public will criticise him for the eventual fee falling far short of that figure. He should have kept quiet, and let the business be done by others. Clearly, mathematics isn't his best suit. In fact,a new word has subsequently emerged to acknowledge his new found acumen - "Monkenomics".
Hmm,City wanted him,are cash rich beyond most people's dreams,so they couldn't be coaxed to go to £30,000,000.00? It's not as if it was the Sheik's own money.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester-city-must-stump-up-4944447 'Garry Monk has told Manchester City that Wilfried Bony can win them the title – as long as they meet Swansea’s £30million valuation.'
Bob you'll have to do better than that, there is no quote in that article of Monk stating 30 Million, nice try, but must do better...
£30 million reported as the club's valuation fro weeks and never denied. Monk said an 'astronomical' fee which few would consider has been met.
