According to the BBC,Monk has said he will not get all the Bony fee for team strengthening as some will go to stadium expansion and training facilities.
I thought money had already been put aside for both.

I don't see why Monk is getting flak here. He valued Bony at £30,000,000 like the rest of us but it wouldn't have been his decision to sell at £25 million. It's Huw/board that should be slaughtered here. Monk wouldn't have had a say in the negotiations.

    Monk,as Manager,must expect "flak",deserved,or otherwise. That's a given in management.
He was the only Club representative mentioning any specific fee,at least that I was aware of,so he takes the flak for being way out with his quoted figure.
Nothing sinister, just people letting off steam,i.e.,their disappointment.

Monk deserves flak if things aren't going well on the pitch, but to criticise him for transfer dealings, of which he probably has no involvement in baffling in my opinion. He had a value for Bony, obviously the board felt different. How many on here would have slammed him if he said Bony was worth £25 million? He had a different valuation to the board, I don't see where he should come in for some stick when something at the club happens that is not under his control.

Vetch - Monk may have been talking-up the figure to try and optimise/maximise the fee. Chances are that he had the green-light from Huw to speak in those terms.
As such, I believe that it is wrong to shoot the messenger.
I'm with Valley - it is the Board of Directors who sanctioned the deal. Any flak should be directed at them - that said, it is their money! <cheers>

As we have been looking for outside finance for stadium expansion and to achieve category 1 academy status it should come as no surprise to anyone that some of Bony's transfer fee is going to be used for this purpose and rightly so in my book. I don't expect us to do much business in the transfer market until the summer when the residue of the transfer fee and TV finance will fund this.

He clearly made himself "involved" by constantly mentioning a fee which was to be not less than £30,000,000.00.
If he had no involvement in setting the fee, perhaps he should have remained silent. His actions were "baffling in my opinion".
This entire debate is now boring in the extreme. Bony has gone;some think the fee was acceptable;others thought the fee should have been higher. Nothing will change any of that. End of story for me now.

I agree , the foundations of the Club are strong but there's still lot of work to do in terms of the infrastructure .

There would have been money for team strengthening anyway ... or would there? Were we desperate to offload Bony to get a few quid together. I think it was at the start of the month or even in December that news was put out that any money from the sale of Bony would be used for infrastructure, can't recall if it was the profit or the whole amount.

Bony wasn't supposed to be here in the first place - we signed Gomis to replace him, but we didn't manage to sell Bony in August. The bonus is that he stayed an extra few months and that goal against QPR added 10 mill to his value. It's great business by us and we've sold at the right time ,,,,,,,,,,,,,for a change.

What I too find boring is the constant digs at Monk, especially when there is no reason for the digs in this instance.

    Of course there's "a reason".
He opened his mouth, and out poured misinformation, and on a regular basis.
According to some of his "sycophants", he was talking on behalf of others.
Well if so,now he's older and wiser.
Next time, perhaps, he will say something like,"the Club will obtain the best possible price for x,y,or z,"
That way he doesn't get "constant digs".
Chill out Valley, nobody has died here. <cheers>

    I suspect he's referring to me,again.

Seems it's still unacceptable around here to even hint at Monk being anything other than a super human being. <laugh>

Vetch - I have intimated in a couple of posts that Monk either knew that the Board would accept (say) circa £26m/£27m and / or that the £30m comment had been agreed by Huw.

However, don't see myself as a Monk "sycophant"....... as I wrote back in April

"No - his win rate is currently better. So the stats do not support your contention of "what a mistake..."

Where have I said that he should remain as Manager? I think that we need someone better in charge for next season - Ronald Koeman perhaps? "

As it turns out Monk has done better than most thought - myself included. Whilst Koeman has done exceptionally well at Soton.<cheers>

This could run and run and run.

I can only repeat that from what I read in various places, the fee for BONY would not be less than £30,000,000.00. Monk was the source.
Now,what I don't know, and neither does anybody else,is whether Monk was being Jenkins' mouthpiece.
The agreed fee was £25,000,000.00,plus some spurious add on's,which will never materialise.
    So,Monk got it wrong,repeatedly wrong,but it's not a hanging offence.
Next time, choose your words with more care,Garry, then you won't get Charlie Hebdo'd.

    I don't see you as a sycophant,Taff. <cheers>

Following on the remarks (above) made about Monk's comments, he does seem to engage gob before brain quite often. Is this part of the reason so many experienced players have left or are lining up to leave the club?
