Was looking for ThaiCanary's fun league link and stumbled across this rumoured transfer.

Now after reading the link it doesn't seem to have come to happen (think the poster states it was happening at half 5 today) but I was wondering what people's thoughts on this would be?

Could it be beneficial if we could get a player swap in there somewhere. We are all aware how good the youth set up down there is and some of the youngsters that have come from there who have turned out to be quality (Bale, Walcott) and are tipped for stardom currently (Oxlade-Chamberlain)

On the pitch yea but thinking along the lines of a lot of new players coming in and Monk having been there for so long through thick and thin and being captain this could help them settle in the area and in the team so he could be more valuable in that respect.

LMAO...they will get nowt off Dai in terms of a warm welcome unless they are worth in excess of 10 million and at some point have put the ball between the legs of either Messi, Ronaldo or Kaka :)

Getting rid of Monk would be one of the worst things the Swans could do this Summer

Monk has been a good servant but is coming to the end of his carreer and is way not good enough for the premier league.

Agree on that, but I still think his experience and knowledge may be useful and we should keep him on our staff....

I don't understand why some people seem almost keen on getting Monk out?!?

Monk has been great for this club, and has shown some of that passion and loyalty that we complain about when a player leaves the club. He's been a good player for us for years, and didn't have a bad campaign at all and in fact, put himself on the line and saved us points more than a few times. Monk holds an abundance of experience and knowledge about the game and about how Swansea like it to be played, add into all of this that he is a well rounded character with a wife and a child then I think you've got an exceptional role model for young talent coming into the club.

I think we need to strengthen our defence sure, and there are definitely better players out there but getting shot of Garry Monk would be a BIG mistake.

Monk is a big influence on the squad, but I think him being a big influence on the squad will change when it comes down to the realisation that he is simply not good enough for the prem and that he will not being playing often. I think we should get rid of him now and get some money then rather hold on to him for no reason. I think that he knows himself that he won't be playing much, it will be a shame to see him go but at the end of the day sacrifices are going to have to be made.

I agree that influence wise getting rid of Monk may not be a great move but with other players there having played with the swans for a long time and being able use thier influence with new players also then if the right deal comes in then surely it has to be considered given that the general consensus seems to be that he won't be playing much next season.

I think this is the time when we make Williams captain. It would be an easy transition to a respected player who is going to make the starting XI. It would elliminate any sentiment towards Monk and actually allow him to focus on himself. If Caulker is the real deal, then I would expect Monk to be challenged by Caulker for the starting spot alongside Williams; Monk would need that focus to make the team.

Jamie I think you are totally wrong. Where do you get this opinion that "when it comes down to realisation he simply isn't good enough for the prem" ?
from what I saw last season Monk did just as well, if not better than Williams in defence. And i'm sure you would say He is good enough, so why isn't Monk?
His age? The fact that he has been with the club since leaue 2? Its like I said on the other thread, they don't count for anything, if your good enough, your good enough.
Selling him - we wont get more than a million, and I believe the qualities he brings to the team would be more value to us than a bit of money.
He needs to stay, and if it turns out he isn't good enough, he will move on. The same goes for any of our players.

Can't leave Gary go, no point in selling him when we will need a strong squad. Monk won't play as I think we all know Williams and Caulker will start, but we do need back up. Also I think he brings much more to the club. Not sure if he's done his coaching badges but would love him to start working with the youngsters. He's a true pro, always happy to talk to supporters.

Garry is a great captain and the players spokesman, its true his legs are not premiership standard but i bet he can still do a job for us. he may not get many games this season and for that reason then we should appoint a new captain, ash would be my choice but buck has that job, Garry if needed will do his utmost best when he gets a chance to play and is an asset in the dressing room that is second to none. his vice tatey is also good as a leader.....keep Garry he is to valuable ....

Just because he's been with the club since league 2, I don' think that is the reason why he should be in the staring line up, if that's the case Tate would also start, but he isn't going to. I disagree with what you said about Monk playing better than Williams, Williams was phenomenal all season last year, Garry had his moments but overall I think that Ashley Williams was outstanding, And with Caulker joining on loan it looks like it will be a caulker And Williams centre back partnership, I think it would be better for his career to drop down a division and get regular first team football than to sit on a bench for a season only getting 10 games if he's lucky.

I think they may feature (should they not be sold) but personally I don't think either will start the first game. It will be close between Caulker and Monk should we not bring another CB in, but i think Caulker would sneak it and Taylor will start @ left back if he is still here. Can imagine Tate will only start at left back if Taylor goes and we don't get anyone else in e.g Bertrand
