Garry Monk is to be offered the managers job on a 2 year deal from next season, can't say I'm happy with this but now that the decision has been made, I'll get behind him and give him my full support from now on. It certainly not the fans choice, but all those at the club are apparently 100% behind the appointment. No official announcement will be made until our Premier league status has been assured, either way HE will be our manager come next season. Well done Dai you were right on this one.
We need stability in our choice of manager-five managers in six seasons and all of them journeymen.Gary will give us that stability, whether he is capable to do a good job ,only time will tell.
Here here, nothing to get the heart racing, but if everyone at the club is GENUINELY behind him, them I'm happy enough to give him a full season to see how it goes. That said, like many others I'm hoping for a director of football to come in and help with signings....
For obvious reasons I can't divulge my source, but I'm very confident on its content but what I can say that it has come to me via someone from within the club, and by that I don't mean cleaners or stewards etc. but from someone working closely on the footballing side of the club.

Chairman Huw Jenkins has been so impressed with the job Monk has done since Michael Laudrup’s sacking, he has decided to give the long-time defender the job *permanently. Jenkins appointed Monk “for the foreseeable future” in February, but was still considering bringing in someone with more experience this summer. However, the 35 year old has steered Swansea towards safety and as soon as their Premier League status is secure he is likely to be unveiled as full-time manager. The club’s owners have offered few public clues about Monk’s long-term future but several players have given him their support and he would be a popular choice in the dressing room. It could still be seen as a gamble on Swansea’s part to put such a rookie in charge, but Jenkins is convinced Monk has always been destined to be a top-class manager. The players believe Monk has the job, which should lift them for the rest of the season as a win against Aston Villa on Saturday - or in any of their three remaining games - will make them mathematically safe. Monk said: “I want to carry on in the job, of course I do. I’ve enjoyed it and the future for me was always coaching and *management. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/swanseas-garry-monk-wins-permanent-3457762#ixzz2zyoNbrMz Follow us: @DailyMirror on Twitter | DailyMirror on Facebook
I told you the score last week what was going on at the liberty. What monk has achieved off the pitch has impressed everyone and on the pitch has been Transformed and getting better. I got told two weeks ago that jinx has made the job permanent and that is why i was so confident in saying so....
Looks like a done deal. Whether you are are pro or anti this appointment it's premature don't you think? We could win all our remaining games which everyone would agree would be brilliant. We could still be patchy, blowing hot n cold and limp over the line or we could even be relegated. Unlikely but still mathematically possible. Don't understand this at all.
Just hope we're not bottom of the league 12 games into next season. The board has gone all-in on this one. Hope they support him better than they've supported others. Speaking of transfers and public support. Worst case is they've appointed him to avoid looking themselves in the mirror. I certainly hope that they appoint a director of sports as well...
And for the record not once did i say i agree that monk should be the manager as all i was saying is i knew he was being offered the job and the reason why he was being given the job and i understand why he has been given the job. Whether i agree or not is not an issue but I think under the circumstances its the right thing to do as i know fully well the amount of hard work monk has put in since he took over. Now its up to monk to try and keep his job and not one of us will know that not even himself until he has had a go and he will get 100% backing from me just like i will be calling for his head if he fails. good luck to him its a tough job and i hope he can do it..
Daiswan: "And for the record not once did i say i agree that monk should be the manager" Seems like you're hedging your bets. I've no problem with you being behind the appointment but can't understand why you're now saying you never said so. Looks like "a big yes" from you.
Not edging my bets at all. I just happen to know at first hand that monk had been offered the job and the reasons behind it. I happen to agree with the reasons that jinx has rightly given him his chance but that does not necessarily mean that i think monk is the right choice. I have an open mind and if jinx is confident in appointing monk then i cant find any reason why i should disagree as they know more about the club than any of us can possibly know. I would have agreed with whoever they chose at the end of the day and as i already knew monk had the job anyway then there is no point in slagging the guy off and focus on the positives that monk has achieved and there are many to choose from....
I still think a director of football, or type, needs to be appointed as well to help GM in his probation years. No matter how much GM has impressed, it's not sensible on so many levels, his, the clubs, the business (re: transfers), to land a young, managerial novice with so much responsibility and pressure to handle on his own. If true though we have a very interesting summer ahead of us; who stays, who goes and who's coming (ooh err Mrs). At least we wont be worrying about losing our manager, as we have done every summer since our championship days. If GM is here to stay, and this will not please everybody, the time has come to stop sucking lemons and just get on with it eh!
I would agree with you stumpy even though i cant say how much good a director of football manager would bring to the club, I have seen it works at some clubs and not at others but again i have an open mind about it and if we go down that path then im not adverse to the idea. I do believe it is being discussed at the club but have not heard anything definite.
Well if true then I'm right behind him. It's been a season of what if's so a little bit of stability would be nice. Monk is going to need to lean on Curtis BIG time to get this right but it can be done. I just hope we use next seasons transfer budget being bold and signing a couple of players to improve what we have. I still worry that the board and Monk might not have the pull or desire to sign expensive players (a la Bony). Emnes has been useful but N'Gog is not the kind of signing we need. Neither has been an exciting signing. Who ever is in charge get's my support. Still a bit disappointed with the Laudrup situation but as the season nears the end we can (almost) start to think about next season. Clean slate, come on you Swans!
