Finally Cellino has nailed down a manager, and he has stuck with his post-Evans approach of going for a young British manager. Out of the three we know of, I think Monk is better than either Clarke or Robinson. In fact, hiring Monk is probably the best thing Cellino has done so far at Leeds. Monk stepped into a difficult situation at Swansea when he was asked to replace an International legend in Laudrup. The Swans were being condemned in the media as relegation favourites, and their chairman was being hammered for sacking Laudrup. Monk didn't waver, and he took the Swans to safety. His first full season was a massive success, and Monk put a team on the pitch that showed character, commitment and desire, and they also played attractive football. Monk proved he could do it in the Prem. Now we find Garry Monk at Leeds United, and on the face of it he is the ideal appointment right now. He will be able to fix our defensive problems, and he will also be able to keep bringing our youngsters on. His presence should also help to convince our kids that right now they have a future at Leeds, playing in a team that's going to compete. Another good thing is that if Monk takes us up, then at least we have a manager who understands the Prem and can keep us there. Monk doesn't suffer fools gladly, and he will take our squad and give it a good shake, and the players will quickly learn that this manager doesn't mess around. Our boys are going to have to step up and raise their game, or they won't have a future under Monk. Excellent. Welcome Garry Monk to Leeds United. You have my full support, and I can only pray the Cellino is learning now and will allow you to get on with the job at hand with his full support. Time will tell, but if Cellino loses it and sacks Monk before the season is out, then he will definitely start to struggle to convince other talented managers that he is the right owner to work with.
Monk has done everything in every division and his knowledge holds no bounds and if anyone can whip leeds into shape then monk is your man. The only thing that worries me is only been given a one year contract and that is not enough enough time for any manager at any level.....
If we have a bad start to the season lets hope Cellino doesn't get a monk on, and sack the poor bastard
If we have a great start and the new man becomes a fans favourite let's hope Cellino doesn't get a monk on and sack the poor bastard. Best he can hope for is 11th and to be despised, that way Cellino will be happy.
Hi de Hi Yorkies, Off to division 3 with that appointment, over the moon with you getting Monk as your manger down here in he Capital.
I'm cautiously optimistic, to give Cellino credit he was probably the best available. I viewed ja briefly and comments on him being the best coach the owner has appointed etc. He hasn't even taken a training session yet. Let's judge him on results before we jump the gun on that. Also with ristac in that the press conference was the bog standard stuff you hear from a new manager, big club with history, excited by the challenge, great fans, ambitious knowledgeable passionate owner (thankfully didn't call him president which a relief for me) but lots of things unasked and unsaid (unless I missed them). Nothing about what transfer budget he might have, who has final say on players brought in etc
Racist Cnut. Nothing wrong with a swaledale ewe. Can you give Chesh a Kleenex and his Welsh mate some Kleenex.
Yes he is... As long as he gets time and also a few Swansea boys who are diwn the pecking order to help bed his style in. He will get you solid at the back with good posession (pre-season is critical and may take patience) We would never have gone up without Brenda bringing a young guy called Scott Sinclair from the youth set up in Chelsea. Garry may well have your 'Sinclair' in mind... Good luck lads....and expect even more venom than usual from our nasty neighbours when you get 6 points from them
Morning all. Good post Billy. We need a fast start after Monk is given funds to shape the team in his eye.
Feel sorry for Monk. Only 3rd choice for the job. Took a Swansea team challenging for the Europa places down to a relegation scrap and now finds himself in a no win job - will be sacked before Christmas or you will be relegated
