Yet another Spanish signing - "El Cheapo". <laugh>

Seriously, let's hope the powers that be haven't lost their powers of selecting the right man for the job. Time will tell.

I probably am inclined to agree, however I'll withhold judgement until new players arrive/leave etc.

I will say this once and have my moan now.

I wish Gary Monk all the luck in the world (I think he is going to need it). I hope he is a 100% success. But, my heart has now sunk, I am dreading next season, for those of you who thought this year was bad, i feel next year will be 10x worse. I will give him 100% support and always be behind even in the ineveitble downtimes we will have this year. If the formation, shape and performances i have seen this season are anything to go by.

I appologise being so negative, but that is the way i feel. isnt it a shame that it is a new begining for the club but all I feel is a sense of dread for what we are about to see, rather than the excitement of a new manager.I will be more than happy to be proved wrong.

On a side note has any PL side ever given a full time job to a manager so unqualified for the position?

    Good luck Mr Monk

I'm optimistic for the coming season. I've always held the impression that Swansea makes managers, not managers make Swansea. As long as Garry holds true to the Swansea values and brings back the work ethic instilled by Roberto and Brendan (which he will), I'm 99% certain that we'll be fine. I'll put money on us hitting 50 points next season.

The guy will get my full backing, but I have to be honest, I like Trundle am also concerned. As much as GM is a long time servant of our club, for me the club comes first, and I am finding it a bit hard to see how next season will turn out given his recent games in charge.

Personally I'm delighted with this appointment.

Garry knows the club better than anyone else. The players wanted him to stay, and the Board have agreed unanimously. That's good enough for me.

Let's get back to playing proper football, with the style and panache that has become a by-word for Swansea City up and down the land!

    STID.

Ignore his recent games. He did enough to keep us up this season with what we had and that's all we needed. The new season will be different after a transfer window and after having the opportunity to have a full pre-season to prepare the squad on a tactical and physical level. Be optimistic. He knows the club inside out and knows what is expected of him. You'd be a very brave man to bet against a Swansea City managerial appointment.

I see where your coming from, but you would also be a very foolish man to think they will not eventually get one wrong.

I can only see us playing the same panic football we've seen recently. The Swansea style we've enjoyed in the last few years is light years away from the kick and rush pattern of play I've witnessed in the last few weeks.

I'll fully support The Swans and Garry but I can still have doubts.

So you think the way we have performed over the last 12 odd games has been back to playing proper football. Take the Cardiif game out of it, who are the worst team in the league and the shape and performances have been nowhere near playing prper football. Dalgliesh knew Liverpool inside out and knew what they wanted and failed.

As i said earlier has any club employed a manager in the PL who is so unqualified for the job. The only one i can think of is Gareth Southgate at Boro and that ended well didnt it.

By the way I know the club as do you as do everyone on here. But I wouldnt employ any one of us. Knowing the club means nothing when it comes down to getting the team to remain in the PL.

This is true. I just think that we've seen enough from Swansea to suggest that hiring someone who buys into what Swansea are about, and someone who works collaboratively with the board, is as close to a guarantee of success as you get in football. Our last 4 managers all bought into what Swansea do. Even the two that are deemed less of a success still were successful by most clubs' standards.

Garry Monk will only go wrong if he strays from what his mentors did in the past. There will always be clubs in the league that try and buy success and inevitably fail, and we'll always be better than them as long as we stick to what we're good at and maintain the club's identity.

Good luck attracting any top talent in the transfer window now. There'll be an influx of N'gogs and Emnes' to look forward to...

This is a poor post stinking of panic. You're comparing Garry Monk to your average football fan on the street. Garry Monk has been a professional footballer all his working life. Graduating from the famous Southampton Academy. Played and captained in all 4 professional leagues in the UK. He's very close to achieving the highest qualification needed to be a full-time professional manager, and has been studying for this while also trying to save a Premier League football club from relegation, which he achieved - all while being a new father to new-born twins.

Now cut the guy some slack, let him have his pre-season and let him make some signings before you start pointing any fingers. Remember, Monk was appointed after the transfer window. He was working solely with what we had. Let him actually have an influence on the club before panicking.

And by the way, Dalglish knew LFC, yes, but Liverpool had strayed so far from the club that he once managed and played for that he was doomed to failure there. The club had gone decades playing different styles of football under numerous managers. How was anyone going to go there and rectify things in one season?! Rodgers first season there was dismal as well. Swansea is not Liverpool. We know what we're about, and we only need tweaks, not an overhaul.
