Hear a rumour we are signing a very familiar player on Monday. Just read a report on Fryatt being unresponsive to 1st injection, and having another before a potential operation if it doesn't work. We'll see - on Monday!
I would hate to see Jay get dropped for an incoming you-know-who. It would shatter him just when he's looking like the player we thought we might be getting and he doesnt deserve it.
Agree with BCC that we don't want to be dropping Simpson right now, but signing another forward is always helpful and lets face it if Simpson got injured what have we got? An unproven Proschwitz, a decent-but-nothing-special McLean or an injured and debatably bad at finishing anyway Fryatt. I'd like to see us bring someone in even if they are just a sub for the first few games.
I really don't think we need another striker. Simpson is doing very well. Mclean is capable. We have paid a lot for Proschwitz who hasn't really had a chance yet. Though, maybe that's the wrong way to look at it. If you want to be in those automatic promotion spots, you probably need that prolific striker, and though Simpson is doing well, are we sure that is him?
i thought second half yesterday was perfect chance to bring prozzy on and try get him a goal, unless bruce has given up hope already..ha
You have to wonder what his place is if we didn't even bring him on yesterday. I mean, Rosey came on for Aluko and god knows what the system was supposed to be after that. Since Aluko was a striker, Prossy would have been the ideal replacement for 5 minutes. He hasn't been involved in the last two games at all and didn't impress before that. If Simpson got injured, would he even be next in line?
? You can NEVER have too may top scorers in a squad. To kick us on we need someone to replace Fryatt's top scoring goals. Even if that person sat on the bench and was never needed, you'd want the option. It may keep JS working hard. Anyone who says we don't need another prove striker is a fool. Goals get you promoted, and having options is good. The Fryatt injury news may well have tipped the balance on this decision. (as for bringing on NP - if he hadn't scored after the first half bonanza, he would have been ridiculed. As it was, we scored none in the second half. If NP had come on he would have taken the blame for that stat - so maybe keeping him sat down was the right thing to do. I think he would have made it on if we had carried the momentum on and got some more early 2nd half goals. Good decision, IMO, to leave him sat down when it was clear the match had changed).
SB signed Prozzy to give us an option of extra height up front. He won't have given up on that aim just because our German friend hasn't found his feet yet. Promotion teams have a lot of good strikers available.
Exactly. If we a are serious about promotion, then we need to keep adding strikers to the squad whenever possible. Assuming they are better than what we already have!
If I was going to strengthen anywhere it would be midfield, particularly the wings so we have options to change the formation as and when needs be.
i don't think it would be a case of dropping him. more a case of adding serious competition. Neither Prosz..etc or McLean are realistic competition for Simpson at this point in time, for entirely different reasons. However, there 40 odd games to go. So to me, any incumbent would be positive competition at least at a time when we need to push forward.
Agree. Who's to say SB wont go 4-4-2 if FC comes? Bruce will have no qualms about dropping anyone including his son. He's here to get promotion.
