What is desperate about anything? You don't think Nick Barmby wants to get in the play-offs this season? I don't like those that are criticising NB. He's young, inexperienced and needs time. But it's almost counter productive to pretend that we are not currently losing momentum and heading towards missing out on a play-off place when we should be grasping a HUGE opportunity.
If you go on an unbeaten run that consists of drawing every game and those clubs around you win one then lose one, win one then lose one etc etc, then Yes, that kind of unbeaten run is shyte.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was the style of play they objected to. Our current team is genuinely going for the wins. Two very different scenarios. Anyway, as I said, you're quite right this unbeaten run's ****e, we demand so much more. Carry on.
If we were playing for draws you'd have a point, but we're going for the wins, what other clubs do is out of our control. Our run given our style of play is actually cause for praise and a good solid base to build from.
Yes, but that's not the point. You are countering people's frustrations on this message board by stating we have been on an unbeaten run. My argument is that an unbeaten run does not mean people shouldn't feel frustrated. Tell you what look at the league table before we went on this marvelous unbeaten run: please log in to view this image Now compare that to where we now are: please log in to view this image
Like I said on the other thread god knows what reaction we would get if we were losing games, this is still one of the best seasons in our history believe it or not, and Nicky hasn't done too badly really being thrust in at the deep-end. We might not make the play-offs but we are still a good team, just lacking a couple of players thats all. I wouldn't want us to lose a good young manager because he gets disillusioned by fans with over-high expectations.
I agree for the most part, but of course it depends who you're gifting an extra 2 points to in the games you lose!
In the second table we have one or two games in hand on the teams above us, if we win one of those games, we're probably going to be back where we were in the first table.
totally agree. you would think that we are relegation fodder and doomed to league one. some of the neg heads are the PL PLastics it appears to me.
See there's the rub, I'd say that's exactly the point. Other teams picking points up is out of our control. What we can aim for is consistency and then to build on that. Good sides tend to have built from the back. An erratic set of results imply that a defence gets shored up at the expense of the attack and vice versa. We're sorted at the back, strong in the middle and creating chances up front. What we need is that little bit of something that gets goals. Frustration in the context of not scoring is fine, I'm sure it's reflected by the management and team. Blaming it on other teams picking up points is meaningless.
The main test for Nick Barmby will be in the summer, regardless of what division we will be in (although i suspect it will be the Championship), he has inherited a team that N.P built and to be fair to him has got them playing decent football if at times frustrating, an unbeaten run is good in whatever context you see it, not losing instills confidence in the players, we just need a bit of luck in front of the opposition goal. No for me who he brings in during the summer will be the measure of him as a manager, will he go for players who can enhance what we already have or last chance saloon footballers on the lookout for a last decent payday, can he attract players of sufficient calibre to the City, can he hold onto our jewels over a period when there will be bids coming in that may turn their heads, it is gonna be an interesting next few months.
The first table includes the win over Peterborough on the 14th Jan so you need to remove that for starters.
