In the 1.30 Kempton Peerless Spirit makes a quick reappearance after a tame debut at Newbury.

Ralph Beckett's daughter of Dubawi made little impact, trailing in last but she was bumped at the start and always in arrears. They have popped a pair of blinkers on her and the quick return after only nine days suggest that they feel she has more to offer. I felt she was worth another try at odds of 28/1 in a scenario where she would probably be one of the leading fancies were she making her debut.

Leighton is choicely bred by Frankel out of the Gosden trained grey filly Coronet but both her previous offspring were only modest, including the full brother to Leighton, Lanfranco. I had a double take when I read his name, as there was a Henry Cecil trained horse of the same name who won the William Hill Futurity way back in 1984. I remember him winning at Royal Ascot in 1985
The Appleby trained Nations Hope is Fav at 7/4 but that is a bit skinny for me as an unknown quantity.

A sleepy Monday yet 5 meetings , two jumps and three sand dunes…..isn’t there such an issue as dilution ?

Peerless Spirit saw a little bit of support early but then drifted like a barge out to 40/1. Slowly away again she never travelled and was under the cosh.

She is either totally devoid of talent or is just not a fan of any other gait than walking. Mulish and I would imagine she would be as hard ridden just to get in the horsebox.

I would have thought she has no future in this game and would be looking to retire her now.

With Dubawi costing £350000 a pop and a dam by Frankel out of Midday the pedigree reads like a who's who of Racing but she probably needs to improve two stone to get into a seller.

What a waste of money. Not their outlay but my 50p that is.

Another horrible death on the racecourse, today Irish Hill stepping at a hurdle and proving to be a fatality.

I’ve been wondering for a while about the new hurdles, I wonder if they are actually safer than those before.

I don’t like them and looking at them intuitively, they look less forgiving. But I’m no expert.
