The key for Tizzard and the Snooks is that without Coneygree it shouldn't be quite so hectic a pace, as he was going to bowl along and devour the fences at a breakneck gallop. That's what they were worried about if going to a King George but I think a flat track at a good pace, not a mad one, should be fine.
I think with him out, they think Thistlecrack will probably learn more about top class chasing than in the Feltham.
Also, if they are serious about the Gold Cup, there aren't many better trials than the King George as it is a quality race and crucially in open company, so they can see where he stands amongst the others in that category.

The decision never was, and never was going to be, his to make it was always going to be in the hands of the owners. Never ceases to amaze me how many people think trainers decide everything.

There’s a Union meeting at the Coalface about it tomorrow (not that I’ll be attending…word might get back to Mr Cameron)! But the Festive spirit which was very prevalent here last week has evaporated in an instant. I find the whole think rather humorous (probably because I can’t see a chance of it ever becoming reality) but some are kicking up one ‘eck of a fuss.
Apparently, we’ve got to celebrate Britain’s ‘democracy, equality and freedom of speech’. Although as one wag said over lunch when those 3 things actually occur in this land then they’ll consider saying it! Meanwhile, I think the irony of celebrating freedom of speech whilst at the same time forcing someone to say an Oath really is head shaking.

Never really took an Oath of Allegiance in my life, maybe I did, can't remember. Start of the old National Service, had to take the King's Shilling, so I guess that's some kind of O-of-A? Never thought much about it at the time, just wanted to do what I was expected to do for my country. Anyway, George VI was a hero of mine, was never supposed to be a King, but his Fascist so-and-so brother decided to abdicate for.....(nevermind). Had Hitler succeeded he would have made the Dook Gauleiter (Governor) of the UK, no doubt. Winston did not know what to do with this silly man, and sent him and his woman off to the Bahamas as Governor there. Nice little war did the Dook of Windsor have.

Do you remember years ago, like when Cue Card won the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in 2010, one or two forum members regularly took the p**s out of trainer Tizzard (and his jockey son, for that matter), calling them 'farmers with a few jumps horses'? How times change?

Personally I think they are crazy. If Thistlecrack were mine he would be mopping up the Feltham before having a crack at the elite stars in the King George! Practice makes perfect.
