Only the 14 Gtown runners in the national!-Poor Dessie Scahill gona have a heart attack commenting on this one
Gigginstown running out of hat colours. Haymount for me though to give Willie a first win in this race and make the trainers title interesting. Having said that I should probably empty my betting bank on the Holden/Blackmore combo Abolitionist. 2 winners and a good place from 3 today. Didn't back any of them
Two in the Irish GN for me today in the shape of Foxrock 20/1 and Tiger Roll 18/1 - the former is a high class horse when putting it together. He jumps and travels well and after not being able to take his chance in the English version, should go close today. Only concern is Denis O'Regan rides and I am not a fan to say the least but I think the horses ability and chance just allows me to overlook him riding him today. I was on Tiger Roll at HQ and I think this race was always in the plans too. Again, he has that touch of class that some of these perhaps don't and he's a dour stayer. Could be hard to catch if he goes for home at the right stage. Donagh Meyler claims a useful 3lb as well.
Had a look at the Irish trainers title stats this morning and see Mullins is 300k+ behind Elliott. Interestingly they're neck and neck with win funds and it's in the place funds where Elliott is comparitively thriving. Mullin's strike rate is better than 1/3 whereas Elliott is slightly worse than 1/6. Mullin's could win the big race this afternoon and if Elliott can fill up the minors then they'll get similar amount. Whatever happens, and we still have Punchestown festival to go where Mullin's usually does very well, the press reports of a changing of the guard over in Ireland are I think extremely premature. Right then Haymount and Shuthefrontdoor in the Irish Grand National. Good luck all and happy birthday Gazboy. Assume you 'celebrated' with an early morning 20 mile leg stretch.
