Yes I think you are right TopC. Mwildcats used to be the expert on SMS.

I think Workforce is standing like Harbinger in Japan. He must have his first 2yos running soon.

Didn't SMS lose some staff a few years back just after he had the season where Workforce won a Derby and Harbinger won a King George?

Since then I can't think of many real top level horses have come through.

Not saying that the two things are linked but his yard just havent fired quite so well it seems. Maybe he just hasn't quite got so many good horses at his disposal nowadays.

On another note, Workforce- is he standing in the UK as sire?

There was a piece in the paper last week (apologies I can’t remember which one as I’ve been celebrating rather heavily these last few days) about the dire state of British Flat racing at the moment, re quality animals, with all the decent European horses now, in the main, trained in either France or Ireland.

They blamed the dearth due to the lack of home breds being produced by the old fashioned, long established, breeders. Sir Michael is going to be hit as hard as anyone re this as for decades he has been training such animals. Fair point as probably the only 2 top, top, top quality English trained horses of the past few years fit this bill – coming, of course, through the Abdullah breeding operation.

Certainly this years Guineas failed to reverse the trend with no UK trained animal in the first 2 in either race.
