Fancy us to win tomorrow and be on 33 points by 3.15.

I reckon that 37 points will keep us up, so we will need 4 more points if we beat Norwich. With Southhampton to play at home, where we have to target another win, we will need just 1 point from the other 7 games. That's very achievable imo.

We will stay up imo and we shall see what the summer brings. Whether that's another Mon season remains a doubt. I think he may well walk if he considers he has lost the fans as he is a very emotional man and values fans opinions.

I'd obviously be devastated at that but find it an inevitability given this current demand for overnight success from some fans. Mon in and 5 mins later Mon out. No doubt the next man would get 12 months to win a cup, start playing Barcelona style football and completely change the team by spending millions we don't have, or else they will be clueless ****ers and have to be replaced as well? Pathetic.

Wonder how many managers we could go through in the next 10 years? Maybe 10 at this rate?

In any managers tenure, especially in the initial 2 years, there are huge hurdles to overcome and difficulties to surmount. Just ask Sir Alex and David Moyes? They both endured 2 or 3 very poor seasons to start with and in Moyes case 4 or 5 before they improved things. Changing the previous managers team, usually a failed one, which is why they were sacked, doesn't just happen by magic. It takes time and money and both are in short supply when it comes to fans patience. If Mon had inherited an already successful team and squad he would have had foundations to build on but then Bruce wouldn't have been sacked in the first place would he if we were successful? The likes of Laudrup, Clarke, AVB inherited good squads and the ability to make a swift mark.

I've seen a host of hapless, laughable, embarrassing and downright ridiculous possible replacements named in recent weeks from some deluded or just plain stupid fans here who seem to be obsessed with the likes of pile of ****e Martinez or anyone with a foreign name? I even saw that nut case Di Canio mentioned ffs. To want to replace Mon with these Kings clothes of managers leaves me bewildered tbh. Is the height of some fans ambitions to simply be bottom 3 or 4 all season, every season?

I have also read that Mon has bought badly? Fletcher? Really? Johnson? I don't remember reading one post 9 months ago when we signed him, that it was a ****e one? Rose is the first left back we have had for 4 years or more and a cracking player Mon would love to bring permanently. Cuellar is not top 6 material but a decent squad player and the likes of Alfie is a hot prospect gamble. Danny Graham isn't ****e but he is what we can attract right now and clearly isn't fully fit due to lots of bench time at swansea this year. He needs a full close season and games to get match fit. The likes of Saha and McFadden were stocking fillers that came and went. Mangane has come on loan to let us see if he is up to the job. Maybe his lack of game time answers that question but its worth the gamble surely? Mon gets criticism for not having a wide enough net on transfer activity, yet when he does cast it further afield with Alfie and Kadar he gets equal criticism? Crazy.

This summer I expect to see pace employed throughout the team with 2 full backs, a pacy centre half, central midfielder and maybe another nippy forward the main targets?

1.5 seasons is not the time to judge the manager but this time next year certainly is. My biggest fear is we will sadly lose Martin before he has that chance to make his mark here as Fergie and Moyes have at their clubs and be allowed to stamp his name on our club. That sense of lost opportunity fills me with huge sadness and despair and our fans maybe deserve all the decades of failure to simply continue with their blinkered, short sighted approach these days.

I look forward to winning tomorrow, staying up and our 7th consecutive EPL season.

I don't look forward to the attitude of our fans thereafter who are merely whoreing their way through managers at an alarming rate. Bloody good managers at that in the case of Mon.

i remember the same kinda ****e from you when you wanted bruce in!!!

atm its about how we win the nxt few games not about changing the manager, not many people are actually calling for mon's head so i dont see the need to go on and on and on about it.

    just saying,,

I think Mon will be here for some time yet as fortunately we have a very good owner who knows his stuff and wants stability like some of our more sensible fans. Mon won't walk out on us like he did at Villa he cares too much about this club even if some fans do turn on him. Funnily enough the thing is it's like he new we would be in a relegation scrap in August as fans from on here talked to him and he seemed pretty despondent before we had even kicked a ball. That suggests to me he knows how average the squad is and isn't happy about it either which for me is encouraging.

Agree with a lot of points you make Cest apart from Martinez who I would be happy with if Mon was to leave in two or three years time. It's only you on this board that doesn't seem o rate the bloke and I still don't really understand why.

Wouldn't be my first choice either but would still be happy with him and the football he plays, with some more investment behind him could do very well imo, although I'd rather he proved himself at another mid table PL club first.

Talkin about talkin ****e............. looked in any mirrors recently? You are the master of talkin utter ****e.

Bruce was given 2.5 years before the fiasco's of Mensah, Bent, Cana and Gyan coming and going inside 12 months of them coming? It was self evident that Bruce was out of his depth and floundering. MoN doesnt look flustered or out of his deopth but instead isnt pulling any punches and will get it right if the boo boys don't chase him away.

O'Neill came with and still has the best credentials and CV of any manager in my lifetime and some ARE calling for him to go on a regular daily basis.

Martinez is the ultimate cowardly manager. Had the chance to maybe go to one of Europe's biggest sleeping giants in Liverpool and bottled it as he knew he was better off at little Wigan with no expectation other than staying up. He has never bettered Wigan at all in his time there imo and is constantly bottom 3 or at best 4th bottom all season. This despite having as big a budget as a WBA, Norwich or Swansea.

He would be sunk at a club bigger than Wigan and he knows it. I think he is a con man of the highest order and has taken in a lot of good people with his chirpy smile and cliche ridden patter.

I think he would be an unmitigated disaster at SAFC.

Still think that having a positive outlook is better than looking for the cracks all the time though eh! We are currently in the longest run of top league football in the vast majority of our fans living memory, so things have been a lot worse..

I also think we will win 2moro and still think that Mon could be the best thing to ever happen to us (in my 37 years) in time, it just doesn't feel like it after the shambolic run we are on. i'm confident things will look alot brighter after the game and if results go our way also the daylight between us and the bottom 3 will be even greater.

I dont think anybody who is swaying into the Mon out brigade is deluded though, they blame him for what is being served up on the pitch, i just hope he gets it right and puts them all back on his side and brings success to this club, what that looks like will differ to each fan, survival for me now represents success, wanted top 10 but survival will do for now

I whole heartedly agree with you, things have been a lot worse during my life time, but thats not to say we should be happy with the present situation. I like every other Sunderland supporter will be hoping we get 3 points on Sunday, overall this season has been a total and abject faiure, whether we survive or not. At the start of the season we all had high hopes we would be top ten, and maybe looking a little higher.

Well looks like Wigan will be in Europe next season, & if he keeps them up again. Then he's a good manager imo.
