MARTIN O’NEILL is prepared to listen to offers for more of Sunderland’s first team squad if he thinks a move will benefit all parties. A third pre-season friendly defeat from four matches at Helsingborgs on Saturday left the Sunderland boss reflecting that there is plenty of “room for improvement” from his squad. But while he is intent on strengthening his pool of players, the Northern Irishman also thinks more could leave before the end of the month. Michael Turner’s move to Norwich City ten days ago highlighted the manager’s willingness to allow players to leave if he thinks the team can cope. And O’Neill has admitted Turner was not the only member of the Sunderland party to be told they could be presented with an option to leave if a suitable bid comes in. “I said to some of the players here, if an opportunity arises, I will look at it,” said O’Neill, who remains keen to strike a deal for £15m-rated Steven Fletcher. “Norwich were prepared to give him at least a three-year deal, I thought 'fine'.

Who could he be on about then?

The lads who are entering the last year of there contracts are Kilgallon, Bramble, Cattermole, Campbell

there is also the constant talk of Richardson and Elmo moving on then there is players who will probably be squad players in Meyler and Vaughan and not forgetting the Wickham going out on loan rumour which MoN has hinted could happen.

At the minute we need 6 IMO (LB, CM, W, 3CF) and if anymore go out of that lot above bar Elmo who won't feature much will need replacing, we could be looking at 8 or 9 new faces this transfer window and there is only 3weeks or so left.

Could be one of the busiest periods in a very long time for the club IMO, we are speaking to clubs today about incoming transfers so hopefully that gets the ball rolling and we have 3 or 4 in by next weekend.

Why the rush, weve got three weeks left in the window. I dont want MoN to do a Reidy, and buy another Torre Andre Flop, or half the players Brucie has bought in his time in tenure. [ actually more than half ]
