ive looked at quite a few threads and not seen anyone blame the manager!! for me he has to take most if not all the blame, we were second best all over the park if it wasnt for ming we would have been hammered. his subs were ****e and the overall team set up was ****, i cant remember us having a decent shot at goal and this isnt the first time its happened! were set up for counter attack footbal but if a team goes ahead and sits back we are ****ed, we dont seem to have a plan b dont get me wrong im 100% behind o'niell but he has to take the blame for this one, i see people are still trying to blame bruce ffs, it's the same players that everyone was raving about a couple wks ago.. gona keep it short because i could go on forever. what do you think?
His substitutions did make me wonder, but I guess we had one of those nights when we come up against a team that simply outplayed us from start to finish. I am not going to get on MoN's back now, because without him, we wouldn't have got this far and probably would be involved in a relegation scrap. I am just thankful he is our manager.....I see better time coming our way under this guy.
fair play mate, im not getting on his back just cant see why most people seem to blame the players and even bruce rather then o'niell, he got it wrong and yet it's still the bendtners and im quite suprised richardson isnt blamed too
He put the best team we had available out. What would you have done differently. We we second to everything last night. I expected them to beat us in the air but we were slow, and could not close them down as they passed & moved really well. Men against boys last night. Mon has done well with this squad, but to expect them to win the cup was probably a step too far.
I personally thought we were porr - but sometimes you have to say it's not going to be your night - I watched, in the first 10 minutes, the ball take 8 or 9 random deflections in and around the Everton box and fall directly to an Everton players feet - I watched Fellaini take his eye completely off the ball and play a perfect pass to one of the midfielders - sometimes when that happens you know it's not going to be your night. Yes we got exactly what we deserved (if not a little flattered by the scoreline) but you have to remember - David Moyes has been at Everton for 10 years and built that side and got them playing as a unit - he is a fantastic tactician. Martin O'Neill has been at sunderland 4 months and has taken us from relegation candidates to a top half finish likely - he does occasionally get it wrong (West Brom, Last night for instance) but he normally sorts it out for the next game - and as the next game is an easy one then we have nothing to worry about
I think the players let us down. We were comprehensively outplayed all over the pitch. Mignolet is the only player to emerge with any credit for an individual performance. Others were let down by the service from their team mates. There were too many nerves and too little skill. The midfield was anonymous - I think we really missed Colback. We also missed O'Shea as that calming influence at the back. Poor Sess had little support all night and we only showed a couple of spells when we threatened. MON does have to take some portion of blame, as does any manager, but I still back him to the hilt. I just hope he can pick them up and move on. It may be time to bring in some fringe players to freshen things up a bit.
well im not a premiership manager so what i would have done does'nt really come into it, im not slagging anyone off here just saying the manager should take the blame for this, mon has been amazing since he took over but he got it wrong last night is all im saying.
With regards to the subs, whilst they didnt work i can kind of understand why he did them. The greek was awful and had to come off but we were trailing the game so we needed to be more attacking. I think by moving Vaughen and Gards to full back O'Neill was hoping we would have a bit more over lap and support from the full backs. if any other players came off it would have sacrificed any type of potential attack we may have had. Unfortunatly it just didnt work.
but if we had been more attacking we wouldnt have needed the greek so much!! yes he was having a bad game but he wasnt stopping us from attacking more, that was the fault of the manaer and the way he set the team up..
but every time the ball came near him last night im sure the majority of the stadium felt uneasy. so when we are trailing at 1-0 it would have been pointless to bring killgallon on for the greek, so im sure MON was thinking that if Gardner moves to right back and Frankie in the centre of mid it may give us a bit more going forward. Unfortunatly it backfires......big style, lol
In hindsight MON made the wrong subs, but I know what he wanted to do. We weren't attacking as Everton dominated and we needed to control the midfield. Everton beat us at our own game, they never gave us any space on the ball and pressured us for every cm of the pitch. In this case (unlike WBA/Blackburn games) we have to accept that Everton were the better team and made us look bad, rather than the other way around. Hats off to Everton and Moyes imo.
true but im sure he could have done something better then what he did!! anyway onwards and upwards ha'way the lads..
I have no argument aout the starting team that MoN put out, how much to blame for the he is they were individually and collectively (apart from Ming who pulled off some great saves) really off the pace and off form is a debatable point. Frankie ( a right gaff for his own goal) was brought on for The Greek which seemed a bit strange, but we were chasing the game and not passing and 'joining up well' so I could see what he was trying to do, get the best players on the pitch, bringing on Campbell should have increased the goal threat (he missed a one-on-one with the keeper). OK our season is over but lest we forget we were relegation fodder when MoN arrived and we are now safe. For the rest of the season I would forget the loan players and get all the young uns' etc playing so we can gauge if they are going to make the greta. Forget 'Bendy' he can go back to London/Denmark Campbell Ji and Wickham should play.
MON he's to hold his hands up and say this one was his fault. The players did not perform and looked nervous but it's the manager that should prepare them correctly for such a game. In my view the subs were disastrous. Vaughan should have replaced Catts, I know catts was working hard but at the end of the day we needed someone who could look after the ball much better. Campbell should have come on for Bendtner and we should have kept the ball on the floor. Highnsight is a wonderful thing, I am sure MON will learn from the mistakes made and we will be stronger for it, he still has my 100% backing. What this has shown is we need to sign a striker and if injuries continue a quality CB. As well as a proven LB. We are very close to having an excellent team but last night showed up our failings.
Everything that could have gone wrong did. The team, MIG apart, didn't turn up, the manager didn't have any answers, a huge expectant crowd showed up, after we all badgered them for weeks, only to witness a slaughter and above all we met an Everton team just too strong and experienced for us. **** happens.
