I wish that Modric's mates would keep quiet about his transfer.
They seem to be waging a campaign in the media to attempt to force Levy's hand and it simply won't work.

Stipe Pletikosa accidentally revealed the truth about the "gentleman's agreement" between our chairman and the unprofessional whiner yesterday.
Everybody's been saying that there was an agreement in last year's summer transfer window that he could leave if Madrid came in for him.
Unfortunately for the occasional midfielder, his Croatia teammate revealed that there was an additional, fairly important, caveat.
He could go, but only if they matched Chelsea's failed bid.

Pay the required amount or don't sign the player.
    Pretty simple.

I'm sick of Madrid's apparent pissing around.
They're clearly abusing their position, in the full knowledge that they're untouchable by the berks at UEFA.
They'd like to make the transfer happen, but not at the price that we'd demand.
Instead of paying up, they're happy to force the move via less savoury methods, as they don't need him right this second and we clearly do, or at least a replacement for him.

If it's true that PSG are willing to pay our asking price and that we need the cash to make our own moves happen, then we should give the player an ultimatum.
Sign for the French side or stay for another season.
His choice, but he needs to make it now.
Cut the La Liga side out entirely, as they're not willing to play by the rules.

They don't have us over a barrel at all. We can simply keep Modric. Modric could do a Tevez, but as Tevez has proved that doesn't necessarily get you what you want. He pissed off his own fans and now no-one wants him.

This is exactly like last summer. I have a sneaky feeling modric may well still be at Spurs come september. Next summer he wil still have plenty of time left on his contract so we can go through it all again

Madrid won't pay 40 million, they are stubborn, as much as Levy and when you're biggest club in world football you can have this arrogance which they play on.

Barca are just the same, they can wait for a player, as long as they get him for the right fee.

I can't see Madrid paying 40 million, in fact the only club that will pay 40 million is PSG.

Then perhaps RM should be coming out and saying the deal is dead, we dont think he is worth more than £25M and Spurs have said no.

Rather than it dragging on and on when quite clearly we are not going to sell at that price and they are refusing to go any higher

But thats what they do, they play games through the media, quotes flying everywhere from players, pressuring clubs into selling the player to them and it works most of the time.

I don't expect Levy to cave in but this is different from last year and will most likely turn more sour if Modric isn't sold.

No they don't, Cesc was near the end of his contract, Mod has FOUR years left, Madrid can pay up or piss off.

At least Fabregas had a reason for wanting to go back to Barca. Modric picked Chelsea last year as the only team he wanted to go to and now he's changed his mind and Real are the only team he wants to go to. I suggest he gives us £5mill on top of the fee like Cesc did if it really is his "dream", although that would still leave Madrid needing to up their offer by another £5mill or so.

I think your wrong, or getting it confused with the nasri situation, cesc had at least 3 years maybe 4 left on his deal.

Now Igor Stimac has joined in, when will they realise, he's under contract, you want him, you have to pay for him. Stupid arguments flying around that DL has reneged on an agreement from last summer when this started. From what i remember about that it was he can leave if the right price is paid, RM have not offered enough, so they cant have him

We initially set a price of 50 million with cesc, a big price, but the previous few seasons he had the highest assists in the whole of Europe, or so a few people claimed, so wasn't that unrealistic a price. I think cesc and moders are different personalities, cesc never went on strike or refused to play, even tho he did mope about and his performances did drop off. Ultimately it will get to a point where you will have to decided if it is worth keeping him, or cutting your loses and moving on, that's is what we did, and if you do that you will probably have to sell cheap. Ultimately I am glad we got rid of him, even tho he went cheap and we had a poor start to the season, it was better for the club in the long run to get it over and move on, as it was never going to go away, I fear the same will happen to you.

    Call that a rant?

Modric signed, of his own free will, a 6 year contract in the summer of 2010 just after we qualified for the champions league.
He was part of the team that lost at home to wigan (bottom 4), away to West Ham (relegated) away to Blackpool (relegated) and drew at home to west ham and Blackpool (both relegated) and away to Wolves (bottom 5). That's 3 points from a possible 18 against clubs fighting relegation. As an attacking, creative midfielder it has to be part of HIS responsibilty that we only FAILED to score a SINGLE ****ING GOAL against RELEGATED West Ham and only 1 in each game against RELEGATED Blackpool. Oh and not forgetting failing to score against Wigan when they'd conceded 11 goals in their previous 2 games! It was these results which ultimately cost us 4th spot last year.
Instead of looking at himself he decided he was "deserved" CL footie and wanted to follow his dreams and go to Chelsea.

When we refused, pointing out that he had 5 ****ING YEARS LEFT on his contract he decided to sulk and was not in the "right state of mind" to play at Man utd in our first game and tried to get out of our second match with City. We got nothing from those 2 games except a couple of spankings. He also played when we lost to Norwich at home, QPR away (4th bottom), Drew away to Sunderland (in the middle of the bad run), Lost away to Everton, Drew at home to wolves (relegated). We FAILED to score at QPR and at Sunderland and Everton and managed to score just 1 Goal v Norwich and 1 goal v Wolves...this gave us a total of 2 ****ING GOALS and 2 ****ING POINTS from a possible 15. We needed just 1 point extra so Modric could play CL footie like he DESERVES.
So how come the jumped up, two faced, manipulative, rat-faced, **** witted, egotistical, twattish, greatest footballer of our time failed to help us get just ONE more point...not 2, not 3 just ONE MORE ****ING point.

And now the little ****er has decided to get his mates, his national manager and his mum to claim Levy is a **** cos he wont sell him to Madrid (this years dream club) as promised?

Well hear this you little rat faced prick...IF MADRID WANT YOU THEN THEY CAN PAY THE ****ING ASKING PRICE THATS HOW IT WORKS.
top tip...next time DON'T SIGN A 6 YEAR DEAL IF YOU WANNA LEAVE AFTER 1 YEAR or GET A RELEASE CLAUSE PUT IN...

IT AINT ROCKET SCIENCE YOU THICK PRICK

    now that's a rant!

Unfortunately the media want to see the London clubs weakened. They don't want Spurs or Arsenal/Chelsea challenging their northern cartel. I'm fully expecting the same with Hazard, Oscar and Mata every year until they eventually move to La Liga. Only thing thats stopped it happening with us as often is the average age of our squad and the feel-good factor around the Bridge

Understand your anger but don't underestimate the role of agents. These days a lot of players can't even tie their own shoelaces without their agents helping them or even do the weekly shop. I think it's more his agent forcing a move from Spurs than anything else, although I can understand his changing ambitions

Was actually going to post a similar thread to this PNP <ok>

The Igor Stimac comments have irked me the most.

I'm sorry Mr Croatian manager, I'm sorry we don't want to get f*cked over by a bigger club who wants to pay a minimal fee for a very good, dare I say world class player, who has a contract here lasting for another 4 years. How incredibly rude and selfish of us to not sell our prized asset who we've helped gain international recognition. We should be ashamed at not letting a player, who only last year stated his head wasn't in the right place (when he's on a measley f*cking £60k/£70k a week to kick a bloody football!) when declaring he wanted to join one of our fierce rivals and this time around decided to go on strike.

Once again, allow me, along with the rest of THFC to send our sincere apologies.

    Pr*ck.

You kept him for awhile anyway though. My comparison to Fabregas was just saying if it's really Modric's dream to play for Real like it was for Fabregas with Barca then he can stick his hand in his pocket to try and help it along. If he's not prepared to do that then he can either **** off to PSG or any other team willing to match our price for him, or he can stay and play like he's contracted to.

Fabregas was different case anyway, as Arsenal basically stole him from Barca as a young player. That was Barca getting a return on their investment.

Stimac is lecturing us about getting in the way of Modric's ambition.

This is the same Igor Stimac that played for Derby and West Ham, using the word "ambition" without a hint of irony.
