Maiga clashes with Sochaux over Newcastle bid

Malian Striker Modibo Maiga is eager to sign for Newcastle United
Having boycotted the match against Caen on Saturday evening, Modibo Maiga also decided to skip training on Sunday in an effort to pressure Sochaux into accepting an offer from Newcastle United

The Malian striker has now triggered a stand off with Sochaux and stated to L’Equipe that his position is firm,

“There are offers that have been made for me, but the president does not want to discuss them. I saw him face to face and I took his position very badly. It was the first time I asked something and I find it disrespectful. Why refuse to discuss? I think it’s selfish. I can not understand. The amounts are important to me and the club. Sochaux will not lose. I will not go free, the club will collect money, and they can recruit, I’m not the only attacker. At Newcastle, I met everyone. They want me and it is not just any club. The English Premiership is a dream. This is the style of play I like, and it suits me well for my progress. I want to leave, he must agree to negotiate, “ warned the disruptive Sochaux striker, apparently determined to leave for the Premier League, for an estimated transfer fee of €8 million.

I wonder how long our 'good standing' will last in France when we seemingly get players to go on strike/boycott and force their move?

Ben Arfa and now this chap (who I've never heard of).

15 goals in 36 apps for Sochaux last season. Good by Ligue 1 standards, but it depends if it transfers to the EPL. He seems to think so, and at 6 foot 1, he's a big strong lad.

It's a case of 'In Carr we trust'.

Can't find anything substantial about him online.

€8 million though? A lot for an unknown entity.

well it sounds like he's already been over here for talks according to his rant. its one thing someones agent claiming such and such a club is showing interest in his client and quite another for the player himself to come out and say he's been to the club in question for discussions.

sounds like he wants to play for us, unlike Erding, which can only be a good thing. Im up for giving anyone a go after saturdays shambles up top. Would still prefer a Sturrige loan though

Maybe he was the 'French speaking trialist' played during the Boro reserves last week?

Yes Yes Yes please....................Did really well at Sochaux last season, defo his breakout year in Ligue 1. Him, Boudebouz, Marvin Martin (2 other cracking players)were quality together, Maiga's got some pace, really strong and has a decent finish on him, he has similar attributes to Drogba but only time will tell if he can replicate them in the premiership. Lots of people rate him highly in Ligue 1, he's up their with the likes of Hazard, Gameiro, Martin etc. For the reported 8million Euros, it would be a risk but from what I've seen, it would defo be a good signing. SIGN HIM UP!!!!, while were at it make a double for Martin <ok>

According to FM, the lad is 22 (with 150 PA)

With him being that age, I doubt he was the unknown trialist
