View attachment 2250 Originally a post, but hell, I figured maybe its worth an Article. These four guys founded 'modern F1' and pioneered the era of rear engined propelled cars that we still have today, left to right Keith Duckworth, one half of the engineering partnership Mike Costin/Kieth Duckworth who fortunately for us approached the Ford Motor Company with the brilliant Cosworth engine concept. Next up, Colin Chapman genius engineer and entrepreneur who founded Lotus, then the legendary Jim Clarke arguabely the best driver ever to sit in a race car, a very quiet man, who never sought out publicity, and last but not least, Graham Hill, father of Damon, the only man to have won it all, Indy 500, Le Man, and F1 WDC, a man with a sharp wit and tongue should things not be going to his liking. All are dead now, Duckworth died age 73, Chapman expired due to a heart attack, not surprising considering the pressure he used to put himself under, Jim Clarke we all know about, Graham Hill killed himself and the members of his racing team attempting to land his aeroplane in the fog. If you click on and enlarge the photo, both drivers appear to be deep in thought, I wonder what they were thinking.
Nah I get what you are getting at. I wish I was around to see these great guys in action. Great enginering pieces of art driven by the madest people you could ever meet. There is a scene of romance when I look it up in books and on the internet of the races before my time and I envy you got to see it in person. Back to your original point Those 4 guys pushed the boundries to what F1 is today. and Im sure everyone involved in Formula 1 has read from their hymn sheet along the way.
El Bando, my hair use to stand on end, simply being near those guys and of course it was possible to get into the F1 pits and paddock areas in those days, not always by fair means. If you ever get the chance stand beside one of those Cosworth engines when its fired up. They were magic days.
