I would not push the delicate balance of fate. Chelsea won the Champions League with the players that took part and were not the most talented squad. No one can say with any certainty that if, for example, Modric was in the team instead of Meireles that Chelsea would of won or played any better. Maybe Modric would of played prettier passes and not got booked and maybe he wouldn't of been as aggressive and determined as Meireles. All I know for certain is the team was capable and fulfilled expectation this time, yet in the past we have been more than capable and failed gloriously. Having the players is one thing, getting the performance is why managers have such a short lifespan.
Or he might have been the missing piece in in AVB's squad and you might have done better early in the season and he might not have got the sack.....he would have tried to beat Barcelona at their own game and would probably have failed. Probably. Not many get to win the CL, it is probably reserved for the uber rich clubs (like last years winner). Fair enough. I'll actually comment on the story now He's a disruptive one isn't he Modric? I don't think he does well enough in the PL to justify all the plaudits - if we can ship him off to RM on a good deal I'll be happy enough - wouldn't want him to go back to Chelsea though - if he's Meireles's replacement then he'll strengthen your squad a fair bit.
