Several contenders as you say and not a below par performance from anyone. Credit due to Jones & Bennett, who've taken some stick (Jones especially) but who were very effective last night. And also to Jacobson, who at last looked again like the left back that made us not miss Mat Sadler. And to Wright for a performance that shoved it right back at the dunderheads in the crowd who blame him for something every time the ball comes within 10 yards - they deserve no credit at all. But Morgan was my motm. He terrorised their defence at times and showed some terrific skill. Great presence of mind to set up Rodgers too, as he'd shown with the cross for Summerfield on Saturday.
I voted for Wrighty as he came back & showed us what he is capable of but Marvin was excellent last night & was impressed how he & Luke suddenly clicked last night. Can't wait to go to Oldham Saturday to see if we can keep up this level of performance.
All well and good to heap praise on the team after last night but we are simply back at square one. Anyone who witnessed like displays away at Sheffield United, Stevenage and Doncaster and at home to Tranmere will be struck with the similarity to yesterday. "We are too good to go down" never follows. MOM the renaissance kid (not the offside kid).
Well i didn't think that would happen this season but i voted for wright, but to be fair he was one of four that was up for my title but don't let us forget some of the inept performance that many of these players have put in this season, and we are only as good as our last game...Oldham will be a big test.....lets keep it up.
I'll take where we were at the start of the season! I agree with Tinned Hats, Oldham will be a tricky game. They're without Jose Baxter though, which is a boost.
This was a tricky one as several players (Richards, Jacobson and Wright) had their best game of the season. Morgan, Rodgers and Summerfield also put in a great shift with the former two starting to form an effective partnership up front. I still think our centre-backs are a weakness and look like an accident waiting to happen at times. I would have to give my vote to Wright as he has not been in good form and has been unfairly pilloried by some in the crowd, yet his movement and passing was generally very good and he scored a classy goal. If the team keeps up this level of effort they will make those who have called for the head of GT eat their words.
A little encouragement goes a long way and square one is a better place than we've been in lately. I've never thought us to be too good to go down but I continue to think we're good enough to stay up. My main concern is 27 games to go and 32 points needed.
