Not heard anything about this just asking "would you still support us if we moved out of Gillingham" After hearing something on talksport.
I would still support Gillingham, you can move us but inside that is still Gillingham, they still have the history of Gillingham.
I think it all depends where abouts we move to. In the MK/AFC situation it's hard to travel from London to Milton Keynes. Whereas of we move out of gillingham I'm sure we will still be situate in Medway where we can still go to games. If gillingham fc moved out of Kent then I'm sure this would cause the same situation as MK/AFC
I am sure we would not move out of Kent as that would ruin the club, we are currently the only league club in Kent so why would we want to change that? I think that we may move to Gravesend and even though that is not great I would accept it as it is not too far and there are a few clubs that are not actually located in their town anymore as they have moved out of town, as long as we are in Medway or close and don't go the route of changing the name as that would annoy me a lot (I am not putting the actual words that come to mind, use the imagination). I can't see us moving any time soon though and personally don't see the point as we don't fill Priestfield and I believe that we should just start building the away end.
I support Gillingham because I was born in Gillingham and the club play in Gillingham! If they moved to Chatham, that would be it for me!
How could anyone support a club if it moved out of the area, it would be like someone living in kent supporting ManU.
would you change your name if you moved house...NO ! the only thing that changes is the fact of your address. so all things Gillingham fc and there past and future move with them. that's a yes for me, without a doubt i'd support the club where ever they went because i'm...Gillingham till I die !
I think being realistic if we ever leave Priestfield it will be outside the boundary of 'Gillingham' Our training ground will remain there though, as will most of our core support. Growth and a new ground is the only future possible, if we want to reach the heady heights of the Championship again and stay there we will need a 20,000 seater, will see regular crowds touching 15k+ and have a financial footing. Personally if we move a little way away we are still Gillingham.
Well the MK Don's Situation probably won't ever happen again and I very much doubt it would happened to us. If we are going to move then the site at Yokusuka Way is the most viable option. The only other places that have been considered by Mr Scally were a farm in Gravesham and of course Temple Manor at Strood. I still don't quite see how a Supermarket couldn't be placed on the Yokusuka site aswell as there are many places in Kent with more than one supermarket close to each other. I for example have an Asda, Waitrose, Tesco Extra, 2 Tesco Express', a Morrisons and a Sainsburys all within a 3 mile radius of where I live. If we are going to move which is still not that much of a priority at the moment, it would probably be to Yokusuka Way which still comes under Gillingham.
as has been said we have no reason to move and as it stands priestfield has a capacity of 12k if my mind serves me well. so on the face of it if we were to rebuild the temp stand with a larger capacity as well the gordon road stand we could easily get upto the 18K mark id have thought and given that the pull of the london clubs will still be there i would think this would be surficient
I do not believe there is any justified reason that I have heard yet for us to move out of Priestfield, we have a capacity of somewhere between 10.5 & 11.5k. Championship football we talk about, we have room for improvement as 'jokeykid(606) has pointed out in the BMS and GRS - that's not counting any future possibility of safe standing does that give us more capacity? Would rather be a sold out every game in a 12k stadium then a half empty shell in a 20,000 all seater, creates a better atmosphere. Think of it this way, PS can then tie the fans up with season tickets ONLY! Rather than having to fill a stadium with kids for quid or whatever other marketing Championship clubs may have to resort too. Cannot see the money in a new stadium only debt. The money will only come from within other functions on the site not the ground itself. If we are talking purely the spectator football side of things as the profit, then there is no reason to move from Priestfield due to marketing resource for future events i.e season tickets. Surely we would not just build a new ground to satisfy match day marketing. Unless we are planning on being a big club!
Gfc1234 is right, The Gordon Road Stand can't be extended at all so that's that idea out the window. It had to have a height restriction put on the stand due to shape of the road coming diagonally across the pitc so unless we're going to knock down most of the houses in Gordon Road and repath the road, the stand won't be extended.
