Many Wimbledon supporters saying they won't go to this match unless MK Dons drop the 'Dons' bit of their name. Don't believe that...most will be there. Interesting point though...what would we feel like if Cortese moved SFC well away from Southampton and a new side started up here? I think we would support the local side, but wistfully look to see how Old Saints were doing. Or would we be so angry that we would want them to crash and burn? The major difference is the number of fans...Old Wimbledon were never well supported. I remember one game at The Dell when their fans were stood under the old press box (not being enough to warrant a section of the stand). Fans sang: Did you come in a taxi?

I can't imagine why MK wouldn't want to drop the Dons bit themselves. Yes you could argue it's part of their identity, but identities can be changed, plus it's hardly a massive change. Furthermore, while they are MK Dons, they will forever be that franchise team that stole the identity of the original Wimbledon. Personally if I was a MK fan, I wouldn't want to forever be known in that way. By dropping the Dons, they can start to form their own identity away from the controversy of their formation and both MK and Wimbledon and the rest of the footballing world can move on from it. While they are the Dons, it's a constant reminder to Wimbledon and the entire footballing world.

Surely it just makes sense to drop it?!

I think MK Dons is quite a good name...incorporating location and its original identity. Sounds better than Milton Keynes FC doesn't it? Wimbledon had few fans outside its immediate area, so I suspect almost all their fans are new. Bet they like their name.

I think you take the hatred Afc Wimbledon have for MK Dons and their owner too lightly. I follow Chris Perry on twitter and even he slags of MK Dons , all he has been doing all week is retweet Wimbledon fans saying they aren't going to the game etc.

I just think it would be better for everyone, MK and Wimbledon fans alike, if they were to drop the Dons part of the name. Just imagine if Southampton were relocated to.... I dunno, Newbury maybe and renamed Newbury Saints, wouldn't you prefer it if they were just called Newbury, rather than that being a constant reminder?

I agree Milton Keynes FC would be a bit dull, but there's other possibilities. The usual MK United, MK Albion, MK City.... or maybe even City of Milton Keynes FC (can be called City MK for short). Or some other name which refers to the local area.... I dunno what MK is famous for except for roundabouts. I know Bletchley Park is nearby. Maybe Milton Keynes Park or something.

Agree I live 20 mins from Plough Lane and there is real venom. I think if there is a replay you'd be looking at serious crowd trouble. May not happen at Stadium MK.

What about the MK roundabouts. Now i've never been to Milton Keynes but heard they have a few there.

It's 20 minutes from me; I might go to the game unless it clashes with a home Saints game.

PompeyLapras, I remember reading a while back that MK had applied for City status and Winkleman said the only way he'd rename the club was if MK was a city.

I think he said on radio he'd seriously consider calling it 'Milton Keynes City FC'.

    Still, hope Wimbledon win.

MK should absolutely drop the 'dons' it's a vulgar insult to the memory of the original wimbledon. This match is the perfect time to do it.

I am quite the reverse! Always thought the original Wimbledon were obnoxious! Disliked them with a vengeance. I thought they tended to intimidate a lot of teams with their aggressive style of play! As for MK Dons, I believe they have more of a footballing culture. As for renaming the club, Milton Keynes FC sounds fine. Far better than Wimbledon or AFC Wimbledon for that matter.

For all their faults as a team, you can't help but feel sympathy for the fans whose team was basically stolen from from though, surely? What if the same thing had happened to Saints in 2009?

Quite simply I had absolutely no sympathy for Wimbledon or their fans! Never have or ever will! They were a horrid team playing in an awful ground. They bring out the worse side of my personality. Give me PFC and their fans any day over Wimbledon!!

As for that ever happening to Saints, that is hypothetical so I am not going to answer that one. I suppose the owners could move the business if they thought it would be more profitable in another location!!

You have to have a crowd to have crowd trouble, and that's something Stadium MK doesn't have

If they changed their name to MKFC it would have fowl connotations.
