Hi all, Just wondered if anybody had seen the below from the QPR In The Community Trust? I don't know what anyone else thinks, but to me this is exactly the kind of thing which responsible football clubs should be doing in the community. It's also exactly the kind of thing that the Goons have absolutely no interest in at all (because there's no financial profit in it), but which Bhatia has commited to funding for the next 3 years. I know that it's easy to be cynical, and we don't know for sure how the Mittals would treat the club were they to become owners.... but for me, this gives another boost to my belief that the Mittals would treat our club and our fans with far more respect than the current mob... ------------------------------------------ QPR in the Community Trust have received a major funding boost with the news that âGlobal Relief Initiativeâ â a registered charity founded by Trustee Amit Bhatia â is committed to supporting, for a three-year period, the Râs Tiger Cubs, a fully inclusive Football Club for children with Downs Syndrome (DS). The financial support given by Bhatia â which was agreed prior to the end of the 2010/11 campaign â is set to benefit the Club by eight times than its current outreach. The Cubs â endorsed by the DS Association and winners of the âInclusive and Activeâ category at the recent Hammersmith & Fulham Community Sports Awards â currently deliver: *Football activities led by highly-qualified coaches for people with Down Syndrome *Coaching sessions that are fun, developmental and safe *Promoting improved social, physical and health wellbeing *Promoting active lifestyles *Activities for all ages and abilities However, thanks to Global Relief Initiativeâs kind donation, the Cubs will now look to build on their recent success story, with expansion plans including: *Expanding the Tiger Cubs into Westminster & Hillingdon *Developing the Tiger Cubsâ teenage players into future coaches *Entering the Middlesex Pan-Disability Football League *Be at the forefront of DS Football â Best practice *Parental support workshops â Lifestyle education, transport, road Safety, transition & money matters *Developing football specific coachesâ courses *Hosting a DS QPR Cup at Loftus Road Bhatia â who has been an active ambassador of the Community Trust since its formation over two-and-a-half years ago â set up the Global Relief Initiative in 2010 to help improve and enhance the lives of people in need, particularly those who are living in socially or economically disadvantaged communities throughout the world. The charity is grant-awarding which facilitates the making of financial and other contributions to fellow charities which, in turn, use such contributions to further and enhance their line of social change. On the subject of his donation to the Tiger Cubs, Bhatia said: "Myself, as well as the team at Global Relief Initiative, am incredibly proud and excited about the recent association with the QPR Tiger Cubs. "The work that they do for children with Downs Syndrome is exceptional and we are very much looking forward to helping them expand their support network and this opportunity to a wider population." Trust CEO Andy Evans also took time to praise the gift from Bhatia's charity, adding: "The beauty of working with the Tiger Cubs in partnership with Global Relief Initiative is that QPR in the Community Trust are able to provide much needed support to families and individuals within the QPR community, which is absolutely fantastic. "Equally the Tiger Cubs are all so passionate about supporting QPR and are as excited about representing a Premier League team next season. "Only a few years ago Football Clubs were viewed solely as teams that competed on the pitch every weekend. "A modern day Premier League Club does far more than that, they now have very dedicated Community Trust staff running an array of community-focused projects that are having an enormous impact in this case for children and families living with Downs Syndrome. "This is just the beginning of a very exciting partnership and we are delighted to be supported by Global Relief Initiative." http://www.qprcommunitytrust.co.uk/...R In The Community_499F4AC7400B4E4EB48F730EBB
As Eamon might say, the depths that Amit plunges in terms of his cynical ploy to win us over knows no bounds!
It's funny how these things come out at just the right time ..... However, fair play, he's done his bit for a good and worthy cause and that cannot be denied.
Keep it up Eamon. As the QPR606 resident cynic you have a key role to play. On my 'EvilOwnerO-meter' however the needle has swung slightly in favour of Mittal's son-in-law who has clearly lost the plot and crossed the line from businessman to fan. I bet he even has one of those cashmere thongs they sell in the club shop.
I've got one of those cashmere thongs..........hang on that's too much infomation Glad that the Mittals are investing in a very worthwhile cause
No Flanman, James was talking about Eamonn Andrews Liver Salts... he gets a bit dyspepsic down there on the Algave with all that drinking he has to do...
As said, it is very laudable to commit to this in advance. However no figures are mentioned here. Is it known how much is spent at the mo? 8 times say 5 or 10 thousand doesn't amount to a whole lot and if we're talking about an amount of that magnitude then it could be construed as a cheap publicity stunt. However it could be a lot more and it would be interesting to get those figures.
