I want to see us keep him. I have a feeling that next season will be a big year for him. I can see Gayle being sold too.
Agree, we should keep him. He is never going to be a prolific goal scorer but he will get a number and would score more if we played a system more suited to him. Would be a good alternative option from the bench in any event.
I'd like to keep him but it really comes down to whether Rafa will play a way that suits him. When he put Perez around him in the last few games he looked a much better player.
Funny that as soon as he was paired with Gayle v Barnsley he set up a goal. Target man that needs a partner with pace. Destroys defences.
It was good to see Rafa give them 10 minutes together. Anyone happen to know how many minutes they were on the pitch together this season?
I can only think of the Norwich game and then Saturday - though I could well be wrong. In those two games they played together for a total of 35 minutes and we scored three goals while they were together on the pitch.
Or Mitro and Perez consistently! Perez has been a different player since Mitro (and to a lesser extent Murphy) started playing instead of Gayle.
I know, and when you see has a 1 in 4 goal ratio for basically a 3rd choice striker this season and his first season in the PL last season at a young age with a big transfer fee with Steve McClaren as manager in a relegated team where apart from Perez and Anita the rest of the players were ****e it makes you wonder!
I think quite a large majority have said all season they'd like to see it more often. However we can ask and moan, its not the Rafa way and its foolhardy to think he is about to change. I think we've got to accept that if we are keeping Rafa then you have to accept the flipside, of which this is one. He is a conservative manager by nature and has been throughout his career. I certainly don't want him sacked despite my reservations about him from day 1 (none of which have been put to rest). I don't want to be negative on the back of a promotion when many will say "job done" - but I haven't changed my mind about this season or our approach. I'd like to see him given a good 5 years. Of course he has to have relative success in that period, such as survival next season.
I think the thing is - If Rafa is backed he will achieve success. It may not be pretty to watch however. But at the end of the day what do you want? Free flowing attacking football that is exciting to watch but doesn't bring in 'success' or conservative football that achieves something?
I enjoy the more balanced style myself. Teams spending the majority of the game passing the ball about in their own half is the worst kind of football I can watch.
He is the Kings New Clothes of strikers, why anyone believes he will do any better in the Premier League is beyond me, his temperament alone against much better teams who will wind him up will get him into trouble, he lacks pace, positional sense and does not have the finishing expected of a striker and we would be better looking at bringing in a better player for this position, who I don't know but Mitrovic is not the answer.
It is if the question is who is the player most likely to injure a team mate in a goal scoring celebration. I like Mitro and think there is potential. I recognise he has his limitations but so do most strikers we would be looking at. If a better striker can be brought in then for me it's a "The King is dead, long live the King" philosophy.
I accept I'm probably peculiar in this regard. I'd rather watch entertaining football every day of the week. I also don't think the two have to be mutually exclusive. Its not like when we were entertained under Keegan and Robson for instance that we were never going to win anything. We were just unfortunate to run into slightly better teams than ourselves. Man U were in a golden era and the Arsenal side we ran into in the cup finals were peaking under Wenger. They were just very very good sides. This has been shown by the way both teams have struggled to maintain those levels. I think Spurs are a great side to watch and probably not far away from winning something. Chelsea are just a very very strong side. There is probably more balance. It is obviously very nice to win things and I probably wouldn't care too much how it happened if we did, just because we've never had that in my years supporting the team. Overall though I like watching good football more than anything. I like to enjoy my Saturday basically.
