Mitroglou Has Gone

Yup, Benfica have exercised the option and Kostas Mitroglou has signed a contract with them til 2020.

So we get £5.5m. The annoying ruddy thing is that his new contract has a release clause for 45m euros - something around £35m !!

Mitrog's Fulham reprise:

 

Complete and utter waste of money. Great player but never looked like he wanted to be with us.

 

Agree Fulhaman, but its 5m + into the transfers coffers.

 

Plus the knowledge that another big wage-earner is permanently off the balance sheet. Sometimes you have to cut your losses.

 

I know he was carry an injury when he came to us but I can't believe how trim he now looks, poor poor decision to sign him

 

Especially when the name in the frame as an alternative was Danny Ings. Mind, you've got to admire Benfica's transfer dealings (almost Daniel Levy-esque). In the last 5 years years they've amassed £351m on sales for very little outlay on replacements.

And just yesterday they won the Portuguese League guaranteeing Champions League football next season. Which would make Mitrog's decision to sign contract until 2020 a no brainer.


PS Bryan Ruiz's Sporting Lisbon were second in the League.
