I see Lansbury has ended up at Forest for £1m on a 4 year deal.

I can't help thinking that we have missed a great opportunity here. Everytime I have seen him play he has been superb.

Also, Watching last night and the QPR game it is plain to see that we NEED a striker. I am a bit concerned that time is passing us by and we will be stuffed. The defence is looking better and midfield is good, except for a holding midfielder but we need a striker who can put the chances away.

We had plenty of good chances against QPR but no one just to tuck them away.

    Come on Hughton!

Also did anyone else feel that we may have been better off fielding our first team last night to help with the cohesion of the squad? Especially the back 4?

The £1M was certainly less than quoted when he was with us. His career has stalled slightly. Maybe a permanent move is what he needs to get back on track.
Agree about a striker but they don't come cheap or you have to just get lucky.

I think his wages might be on the high side? Maybe that is the reason?

I was surprised Garrido and Bassong didn't get at least 45 minutes each but I don't know how match-fit they were before arriving at the club.
Hughton and the physios know better than us, but it would have made a great deal of sense with such a big game looming at the weekend.

Agree Kempy, did not know about Lansbury.

If he only cost £1M,what a bargain.

I certainly think we need another striker.

    Morison,Martin just not good enough.

Jackson and Holt Ok for "most games",but we need a proven striker.

I would still favour Jordan Rhodes,I know he will cost big money, but some times you have to just go for it.

Remember how we struggled till D Ashton arrived? If we had signed him earlier we would probably have stayed up.

I know Rhodes has not played at high level, but neither had Ashton,Holt or Jacko,Good Goalscorers will always score goals.

I think we're ok now for attacking midfield options, and I'm not sure who he would keep out of the team.

This is very true, plus we've got Butterfield rapidly getting back to full fitness.
A good striker is crucialissimo before the deadline, but we're fairly strong now in all other areas.

I've been saying all close season that we need to splash out on a striker to 'give Holty a hand'. I like Jackson he really puts in a shift but he misses more chances than he scores. I still think that Holt won't get as many as last year, so we really do need to bring in some quality up front IMO. Come on McNasty, splash the cash on Rhodes and take a gamble. What do you reckon Supers ? <whistle>

Martin and Morrison didn't play well from what I heard, defo a striker would be very nice. None of ours seem to be on much goal scoring form
Saints have just bought someone I see

Also looks like we maybe facing dembele again on Saturday

Lansbury is a step backwards now and the striker issue is being actively looked at. Apparently we will sign a striker within days. Relax peeps.

Zambiam international striker Emmanuel Mayuka from Young Boys Berne. His stats look good - so now the Saints have Lambert, Jay Rod, Sharp, Gully and Mayuka as options...... hope it works out for them as I like the Saints and would like to see them stay up with us of course.

We do need another striker (or two if we offload Chris Martin) and this I suspect will be where Hughton will prioirise his energy over the next couple of days.

I feel Lansbury would have been a good signing a year ago but now I feel we are covered in that area with higher quality players. I agree a striker would be beneficial if we can get the right player at the right price.

have we missed a trick with lansbury?

no. he's gone to forest for a reason - he's an excellent championship footballer but we have loads of options better than/equal to him in that role now.

    do we need a striker?

yes, ideally. but they don't grow on trees. if anyone thinks the manager isn't trying to bring new personnel in then they are wrong - he is, but its not easy to get players you want on board. i think we'll get someone but i reckon its more likely to be a loan than a permanent signing as i really don't think we have the funds available to bring in a striker who will be good enough to impact on the current setup.

i think the fact people will struggle to give you realistic names shows you exactly why it is so difficult! there aren't that many about...

i'll put forward jozy altidore from twente - started the season on fire in holland. did rubbish in all honesty for hull city but has improved and matured beyond recognition since then. had a very good year last year. would probably cost around £3.5m. big, strong, quick... would be a risk but then most strikers we sign will be.

Altidore wasn't rubbish for us, just never scored (admittedly rather important for a striker) but I think he'd be a good buy for you. Had a decent return last season, I'd take him over Rhodes.

thanks for the feedback. maybe i exaggerated his hull performances a bit. he certainly seemed a bit out of his depth at that time and did rubbish in front of goal, reminded me of heskey, but he was very young and didn't get much service. he's beginning to come good now <ok>

Jozy Altidore is a great shout. At Hull he was pretty young and still remember contributing a lot even if not goals. I seem to remember working his Bollocks off but lost the ball a lot, having a good return last season he definitely should be considered. I still think it will be a complete surprise who we do sign. Hughton is better than Lambert when it comes to keeping transfers close to his chest
