Ty has just put pen to paper on a new 3 year deal. Great news as this young kid has awesome potential and I would go as far to say that we could have another Kevin Beattie on our hands! Strength, Pace, Power and Skill, he has all the attributes to become a top notch player. He just needs experience and tactical awareness that comes with age. This is a great statement from the club after we turned down 3 Million fir him! We now have the best CB pairing in this league in Chambers/Berra, an awesome Left Back in Mings, A solid Right Back in Parr and an awesome new attacking play maker in Bishop! Things are definitely looking up and I will be the first to admit that I was wrong after the lack of transfer activity in the Summer! Mick has assembled this squad for peanuts and although it is early days this team will surprise a lot of people this season. Town are on the up!
Remember that when we lose a game or two.... I agree we have been building a decent team quietly and cheaply while other throw money around..as I've said before a small close knit group of players can achieve things without the need for splashing cash...coyb. As for Mings when I saw him play first game of last season at Reading he looked like he had never seen a football let alone kicked one, I thought he had no chance of making it but I hold my hands up and I'll admit I was wrong on that, he is looking like a great prospect I think maybe he thought he was out of place but MM belief and the offer being turned down seems to have built up his confidence.
I know Weighty I do get a bit pissed off when we lose but that's only because I love this club just like everyone else. I have supported Mick and Terry ever since they walked through our door and I will continue to do so. They are the best thing to happen to this club in a very long time and the way Mick has gone about his business has been exemplary.
Well done Tyrone. I always had the belief he would come good and he is progressing at a very fast pace now that he knows that his place in the team is his to lose. I think he'll turn out better than Cressy and will be another money maker for us if we ever cash in on him. Hopefully we can make it the premier league whilst we still have these young players on our books.
Like I said SD, Ty has bags of potential and could well be placed in the same bracket as our Kev in time!
I have to say that I like the way that we are locking our youngsters into three year contracts, meaning they can't be pried away from us without decent compensation. Southampton are a great example. They keep churning out players that they sell for big money and then reinvest that cash into a few better quality/more established players that improve the squad overall and so their improvement continues. It's a great model and has served them well over the last few years. We'll always be a selling club, like nearly all teams bar a few at the very top, and it's good to see that our days of letting contracts run down and losing lads for nothing are behind us. Even if we were to sell Mings I have great confidence that Matt Clarke would just step in and we would have another decent left back to continue the cycle.
Johnny, totally agree with you about Mings, in fact I was saying the same a week ago: ''Another great display from Mings, without wishing to put too much on his shoulders he reminds me a bit of a young Beattie(pace ,power ,comfortable on the ball and fearless in the tackle)Let's hope we can hang onto him if he continues to develop along those lines.'' Wonder if long term his best position will be cb,great that he has signed a longer term contract.
That's some comparison guys. But if Mings does turn out to be in the mould of Beattie then we've potentially got a star on our hands. Mick has gone about his team building business quietly and hopefully we will see the fruit of his labour over coming months. Tomorrow is a big game. Despite Wigan being below us they cannot in any be taken lightly and will give us an idea as to where we are this season so far.
I may still be in the " If a big offer in takes him " - How have we let Cressy go for £4 mill upfront with tonnes of experience, with Mings potentially having bids of £ 3 mill when in all honesty he could very much go the wrong way!?!??!? Not convinced he's as good yet as people say!?
Long way to go for Mings to be labelled alongside even Cresswell in my opinion. A lot of raw talent without any doubt, but Cresswell had 3 full & excellent seasons in the championship before moving on. Given the same amount of time Mings could match and surpass that level but currently he is very much an unproven prospect that we will have to be patient with to see just how far the lad can go
