Just been browsing Wiki for information on some of our ex-youngsters (apparantly Michael Carvill an old Striker of ours is doing well for Linfield in Northern Ireland) and came across the below. Have to admit this is the first I've ever heard of it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reloca...s#Previous_Milton_Keynes_relocation_proposals
Yeah - i remember it. It was in the London Evening papers as well, but didnt really get off the ground. If i remember correctly, there was also talk of ground share too - but Mr Gliksten wasnt the brightest tool in the box.He was going to go to Oz to run his company think it was called Geelong - he'd had enough of trying to run Charlton on a shoestring and wanted out.Think he sold out to Mark Hulyer - could be wrong.
I remember it too but I don't think anyone ever thought it was anything more than an empty bluff in our dealings with Greenwich Council. Just imagine, we could have been the Franchise and everyone would have hated us instead of our being everyone's favourite second club. (Do we still hold that distinction, by the way? Or have we lost the title to Blackpool?)
Yes I have,Michael Gliksten, unhappy with relegation and low gates considered this move to MK. It made national tv on BBC on evening, The market was to raise more money and the last blow it seemed at the time. Th Glisten Brothers, one of them anyway also considered moving Charlton to South Africa in the early 50's. Read that in Jimmy Seed's book.
i cant believe you lot are even mentioning that mickey mouse club.only one team in buckinghamshire the mighty wycombe wanderers and only one dons afc wimbleDON
lol! I thought the exact same thing coming away from the Valley today. Based on Karl Robinson's comments all them months ago though I still dont think we deserved to lose out on the Premiership title every year we were up there ;-)
