There was a suggestion a couple of weeks ago that Milner was a possibility for the lads. Pretty sure he was at Villa with MON, might like Johnson be surplus to requirements at MC. If Johnson is on offer at £10m, 2 or 3 above what they paid for him, might Milner be affordable for us? Milner and Johnson inter-changeable on the wings, Jimmy Mc as an impact sub and we would look very exciting. Any chance?
I like Milner, but his lack of pace is his failing. Wouldn't have the impact of Johnson, although he's a canny player. Can't see it, personally.
I'd have him in a heart beat. Good enough for the Prem and us. Bags of energy, hard working, can pass yes please!
Realistically though mate, it would be Milner or AJ, and I think we'd all agree AJ would have the biggest impact. Milner is a smashing player, but we need pacey, direct, skilful. AJ is all of that.
Holds the ball up well, works hard defensively, a bit of height which wouldn't come amiss in our side. Might even work in central mid-field, I reckon MON would revitalise his career. Plus he still owns property in the North East.
Now, as a CM.... ---------Fletch -----------Sess McLean MILNER AJ ----------Colback Nice. Can Seb play RB? He can tackle, and that way we still have him for dead balls!
Johnson out will be easier to swallow for City I'd assume, didn't City pay £20m+ for Milner, whereas they're likely to recoup the full lot on Johnson.
That formation would be very interesting, particularly at home. We might want to beef it up in the middle of the park away from home for the first hour or so to try and maintain a clean sheet then become more offensive in the latter stages.
I love Jack Colback but if you said would you play him or milner in central midfield its a no brainer. Milner is a bit above Jack at this time in their careers and would, alongside Larsson, Sess and AJ make us a very tidy team imo. That said, it won't happen.
Always liked Milner even at the skunks. He was their best player at the time they let him go. The thing is I think Mancini loves his versatility, he knows if they get a problem anywhere on the pitch he is covered. A player that versatile is hard to replace. Not sure how good he is in goal mind!
Milner is a very good player but i think he'll stay at City. On the plus side you may dodge a bullet as he's a poisoned chalice. Left Leeds and cost the manager the job, was sold at Newcastle and caused Keegan to walk, was sold at Villa and caused O'Neill to walk (or am i a year out with that one?)
He is coming along quite nicely as you say. But isn't he a little too much black and white for some of you lads liking?
We got him into the Academy early enough to turn him into a human being as well as a handy footballer.
