Millwall next up for City - similar to Brentford, they've had a tough start to the season, losing to Nottingham Forest on the opening day a draw with Bolton and losing by the odd goal in seven at home against Ipswich, despite seemingly having the better of the play in all of them. Their manager is seemingly not happy - here are his quotes after the last game: "It is not good enough here at The Den, it is unacceptable. "Ipswich showed their class and ability at key moments. In my opinion we have given them four goals away at key moments. "We were ahead after 44 seconds and we give a goal away, yes the goalkeeper should save it - there is no doubt about that. It is a horrendous error. He should save it at the end of the day, it is what he is in the goal for. "The fourth goal is the icing on the cake, I have not got the professionalism or leadership in my group to deal with a free-kick against a non-physical Ipswich side." It will be interesting to see if this fires them up and turns them against him. I doubt we'll be allowed an easy ride naturally and need to be up for rough treatment. If he were fit and focused to play, it's a game you'd like to have Flint available for, but I expect Wright to keep his place and Hegeler brought back in for Baker. Hopefully we can get back to playing well after the disappointing Brentford performance - my head says 1-1, but heart says 3-1. Lose and I can see the mood around the club plummet.
We started so well at Bentford and then the wheels came off in the second half and so we need to up the ante if we want all 3 points against a bruised Millwall side. This will be a result that could go a long way in forming people's opinion of our capability despite being so early in the season.
Fully expect us to beat Millwall and Villa at home after.realistic 6 points should be taken especially the way Villa are going at present.
Probably a good time to be playing Villa - 6 points would be fantastic & make people sit up & take notice...
Would doubt that Baker will get dropped. I would prefer Hegeler to play at home to help get the ball moving forward. However Baker wasn't cheap so I suspect LJ will be justifying the outlay by keeping him in most weeks. There are benefits to a settled defence too I suppose.
Millwall is a must win game, even at this early stage of the season. I'd settle for a point against Villa.
Their manager has dubbed this their 'toughest test of the season so far'. Considering they've played Forest (5th) and Ipswich (3rd), that's quite a statement - though could well be him tempering expectations as they've only collected one point so far. Their fans are split, but small majority think they'll win. https://www.millwallfc.co.uk/news/2...m-into-our-match-at-bristol-city-says-harris/
Arry likes to tell the press what Aden wants don't he? http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/spo.../birmingham-city-boss-harry-redknapp-13493270
Anyway team news ⚽️ Fielding, Pisano, Baker, Wright, Bryan, Brownhill, K.Smith, Pack, Paterson, Reid, Diedhiou. ⚽️ Subs Lucic, Hegeler, Magnusson, O'Neil, O'Dowda, Eliasson, Woodrow.
Will it be another game of 2 halves? If it is can we put Milwall to the sword before we run out of steam? I think we should be able to.
You keep telling yourself that Harry, you just bagged half your team after last nights loss, never a good thing to hear from your manager as a player. If he does want to come to you, it's probably got more to do with the fact he isn't getting a look in here, with Wright, Baker and Hegeler all seeming to be in front of him. Zola' - Redknapp Redknapp reacts to Birmingham's loss at Burton Posted at22:18 PA After last night's 2-1 loss to Burton, Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp was angry at his side's second-half display. Redknapp - who steered the Blues away from relegation last term after a torrid run under former boss Gianfranco Zola - told BBC WM: "Four or five of them disappeared in the second half. We didn't win any battles. It's not good enough. "You don't win two out of 25 games and then - with virtually the same team - no one is going to walk in and say: 'OK lads, sprinkle stardust on you, forget that you ruined Zola last year, this year we're going to be different'. "What I need is to change a lot of them, because they're not good enough for Birmingham City. "It's no good these players here, when they don't get picked in the future, coming to me crying. They've had their chances."
Pretty 'meh' stuff - Millwall worked hard, but it would have been more of a surprise if they didn't. We attempt to play attractive football, but if we're not good enough to enforce it enough to create chances against high energy teams, then we won't have much joy. Still nothing to get that down about, but we really could do with another win to kick-start things. I thought it'd be a good time to play Villa, but them beating Norwich suggest they're getting their act together. Hard work in training required methinks.
**** game, bloody awful, Milwall should have gone away with 3 points but Fielding made some good saves to keep it level
We were crap once again, starting to get concerned. Seriously need to be beating teams like this at home. These are one of the relagation favourites Simply need to be beating these teams on home soil. Ten games I have given him,if this carrys on it will be time to go. Goalkeeper, midfield general, top striker a must. Are the new signings better than what was there not so sure.
Was at the today Gate and can confirm that we were worse than ****ing crap. Pack and Smith truly woeful, no movement, could not pass for toffee. Millwall should have won the game by a canter, we hung on nothing more. Concern for me is that the 5m spent on Diedhiou was a total waste of money. The bloke was blowing out his backside after 20 mins, wins few headers, has no real pace and generally looks out of his depth. May just be settling in required but looks like Engvall mark 2.
You're starting to sound a bit like me and I also thought we were a pile of horse manure. Diehou was wandering around like a fart in thunderstorm and I just couldn't see what all the hype was around him, and as for the price what can I say? If nothing of anything significance happens during what's left of the transfer window I can see us turning in today's sort of performance most times out. No panic buttons by me yet but the time is nigh and if we continue to put in the seemingly total lack of effort like we did today then I fear for the future.
