On Sunday the Canaries beat their arch rivals Ipswich Town 2-0 at Carrow Road and moved to within one point of the Sky Bet Championship automatic promotion spots and players and fans alike were on an extreme high. Come Wednesday and everyone was brought back down to earth with a bump when City put in an abject display against lowly Wigan also at Carrow Road, where an 8th minute strike from Kim Bo-kyung was enough to secure all three points for the Latics. However City are still only three points off second spot and will hope to get back on track when they travel to the New Den to face Ian Holloway's struggling Lions side. City thrash Millwall earlier this season Millwall are second bottom in the table without a win in five games and are desperate for points to avoid the drop, six points separate the Lions from Rotherham in 21st place. Last time out Millwall suffered a 2-0 home reverse at the hands of high flying Bournemouth this was their third defeat in a row. Their last win was a 1-0 victory at St Andrew's against Birmingham City on the 10th February, but they haven't tasted home success since way back on 25th October when they beat Cardiff City by the same scoreline. Norwich will be without Lewis Grabban tomorrow as the in form striker has just undertaken successful ankle surgery, Wes Hoolahan should return to the starting line up. Alex Tettey is still suspended while Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe could be back in the squad. Millwall could welcome back Nicky Bailey, who has missed the majority of the season due to a calf problem, however Shaun Cummings (thigh), Stefan Maierhofer (quad) and Lee Martin (foot) all look set to miss out. Alex Neil's Match Preview City boss Alex Neil previews tomorrow's game “Sometimes getting a defeat can be a good thing in a way, and certainly at this stage of the season with 11 games to go we need to respond in a positive manner and I’m expecting that to be the case.” “Ultimately what will happen is when you get a defeat, generally the best teams and the best players respond. We need a big response on Saturday and we need to make sure we go and pick up three points. “I think the first goal is crucial. I think the fact that Wigan scored allowed them to sit in and make it difficult for us. Going to Millwall, first of all we’ve got to start well. “We’ve just got to work harder, be more intelligent with our play and move the ball quicker.” Ian Holloway thoughts on tomorrow's game "What we need to do now is show the same type of togetherness, spirit and commitment to the cause as we all managed to do this time last season. The energy around the place then was absolutely immense and that helped the lads to perform at their absolute best. please log in to view this image Lion's boss Ian Holloway "We need that again and, so long as the players continue to show the enormous amount of effort and passion that they have been doing, then I'm sure the fans will help to create a positive atmosphere which both helps us and makes it hard for teams to come to The Den and play how they want to." Current Form Millwall: L L L D L Millwall last kept a clean sheet at home 2 games ago. The last 20 Millwall home matches have produced an average of 2.60 goals per game. In their last 20 home matches against teams positioned in the top half of the table, Millwall have scored 1.3 goals per game and conceded 2.1 goals per game on average. Norwich City: L W W W W Norwich last kept a clean sheet away from home 2 games ago. The last 20 Norwich away matches have produced an average of 2.50 goals per game. In their last 20 away matches against teams positioned in the bottom half of the table, Norwich have scored 1.0 goals per game and conceded 1.1 goals per game on average. Match History In all competitive fixtures honours are pretty even here with Norwich having 30 victories to Millwall's 25. At Carrow Road the Lions have historically found it difficult to overcome the Canaries and have only won there on 5 occasions, City have 23 wins and there have been 11 stalemates. Likewise in the return fixture the Canaries have only 7 wins to the Lions 20 with 9 games finishing in a draw. Norwich's biggest margin of victory against Millwall is 6-1 a feat they have achieved twice. The first was on 21st December 1985 at Carrow Road in League Division Two (2nd tier), the second was earlier this season in Round 23 of the Sky Bet Championship also at Carrow Road. The Lions beat the Canaries by the same scoreline on 28th August 1926 at the old Den in a Third Division South (3rd tier) clash, but they bettered this on 4th March 1939 when the two sides met in a League Division Two (2nd tier) clash also at the old Den when they thrashed City 6-0. There have been two other fixtures that have seen seven goals, the first was a 4-3 win for the Canaries on 28th April 1954 at Carrow Road in Division Three South (3rd tier) the second was a League Division Two (2nd tier) match at Carrow Road on 2nd December 1967 when City ran out 5-2 winners. One of the most entertaining games between these two sides with a dramatic finish was an early 'live' televised match at Cold Blow Lane on 22nd January 1989. Having led by 2 early goals Norwich were pegged back to 2-2, as the match entered the final minute of added time Canaries legend Robert Fleck popped up to score a late, late wonder goal to claim the spoils for the Yellows. Very well done Kio yet again but I did pick up on one really scary stat .... "In their last 20 away matches against teams positioned in the bottom half of the table, Norwich have scored 1.0 goals per game and conceded 1.1 goals per game on average." but a few were prem games - so of course no worries
No more curse or banana talk please boys. Awesome thread KIO & this really should be straightforward even without the fans favourite Grabban up top.
Was not meant to be negative on only my 2nd ever post , and I cant believe how much we missed Grabban wednesday his season despite the early goals , has really been one of two halves. The stick he got from most fans for first half of season (I just thought he was not overly good but never voiced it) to now being so missed and needed - fair play he has come on leaps and bounds under AN
Welcome aboard tricky, hope you don't mind me asking but are you are long time lurker as we say on here, or did you follow one of my links to a match day thread on Twitter ?
GAME DAY ! With Bournemouth thrashing Fulham last night today's match is a MUST win IMO if we are to make the autos. However, having watched City for many years this game has got 1-1 written all over it if you ask me. Let's hope I'm wrong, after all my 4-1 home win prediction last time out went a bit pear shaped COME ON YOU YELLAS !!
No question about it KIO, a draw or a loss today is likely to hurt a great deal, as unthinkable as it may be. We really do need to create a gap to 7th, and at least maintain it until May
Morning Thai, or is it evening for you ?? Off topic but does the new shade of yellow in my post above show up ok on your device ?
Mid-afternoon mate (nearly 3pm) and yes, the yellow shows (desktop with Google Chrome) but looks more like Wolves or Blackpool tangarine
Good work (again) KIO, but interesting to note that in your list of people with Lions connestions, there's no mention of a certain Mr S. Morison? Is that deliberate as he left under a bit of a cloud? OTBC!
Not intentional Cromer I can assure you, there seems to be an issue with this new site in that there is only so much text and data you can put into any one post so I have to pick out what I think are the most 'notable' connections etc.
Today's game is the first I am going to since our home game against Millwall. Hopefully the outcome will be similar though I can't believe Millwall be that bad again.
Off topic and in case anyone's interested or didn't know, I found out earlier this week that for better sound quality you can now listen to BBC Radio Norfolk match commentaries through your Digital TV on Freeview Channel 719
They will be worse. They are now so bad we have even stopped taking the piss out of TC, mighty and Steve (almost!)
