http://www.millwall.vitalfootball.co.uk/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=94583&start=1 I don't mean this is a criticism of the 'Wall lot on here obviously, but it really sickens me to see this sad bunch defending Istanbul "banter".
Good job he's banned. THe 'turks carrying knifes' chants are up there with the 'he's fat, he's round he's 6 feet underground, Brian Clough' chants that a minority of our fans sing. Completely unacceptable. Just like this;
Seems as though behavious all round was a bit better than last year. Progess, however small, is still progress. Let's hope it continues on both sides
So put the shoe on the othe foot. How do you think you'd have reacted if you had a minutes silence for Revie and the Blackburn fans chanted through that? YOu should have just stayed quiet for the minute silence but chanted Revie's name for the full 90 minutes. What you did do was utterly disgraceful.
They should have had the minutes silence only at old trafford, i wouldn't have given a **** what other fans had done at a minutes silence for the Don, we respect our own. it was more of a two fingers up at the FA than a dig at Busby
I don't like seeing football fans banned, unless they've caused damage to the stadium or an innocent person. Waving that flag is, as I said on my article the other day, embarrassing and desperate. But I don't think it's right for clubs and authorities to start drawing lines about where banter can start and stop. Football is becoming the ultimate place for society to prove that it can become more authoritarian and erode free speech bit by bit. Both in the stadiums and on Twitter and Facebook, where offended people are increasingly getting others arrested just because the nasty old words hurt their feelings. Aww. I hate the man who waved that flag because I'm a Leeds fan who has every bit as much respect for the families of Chris and Kevin as the next man. The Leeds-hating cockney sewer-rat can die for all I care. But this Daily Mail prudeishness trying to stamp out 'offensive' banter from the terraces is going to destroy our atmospheres even further. Even if you don't agree with it, there's still a matter of principle. It says a lot that Munich songs are prevalently sung by Leeds fans in pubs and concourses before games, but rarely inside the stadiums. It's becoming so obvious that the mopes are cracking down on the loutish football fanatic as part of the Taylor plan which has already ****ed up football beyond recognition. Our own club gleefully took part in that too, closing the Kop to non-members after alleged 'misbehaviours' at the scum game. Trying to make Leeds United boring.
They never gave any other fans the chance to chant through Revies minute...because he didnt get one!! Thats the biggest ****in show of disrespect to have happened!!
It's not surprising. The lack of recognition towards Don Revie's achievements at Leeds United outside of Leeds United is absolutely disgraceful. To have a team dominate English football the way Revie's Leeds United did and then just ignore it as if it never happened when he died because of the England fiasco is just wrong on so many levels. People don't forget how good a player Maradona was just because of the Hand of God. People don't forget how good a musician Michael Jackson was just because he may have been a *****phile. Why, then, does everyone just dismiss Revie's achievements just because he abandoned the England job that he was going to get sacked from anyway?
I think the FA and English football distanced themselves from Revie when he did a runner amid the cheating scandal - If he had done it fairly, he would have been labelled as an all time great instead of a cheating coward
1. All allegations were dropped. 2. We lost the games anyway, so how did we cheat our way to success?
1) Lack of evidence despite his OWN players fessing up! 2) Really? I thought you won the league under his tenure?
1) Lack of evidence despite a player who had been dropped and never liked Revie in the first place, claiming he and not Bremner, Giles etc. had been sent fessing up. 2) Despite losing the games we supposedly cheated in, and losing a CWC final to a referee who admitted being bribed by AC Milan.
One player, Gary Sprake, who has since revoked his claim that Revie was involved in match fixing. Either way, if your own player confesses and they STILL don't have enough evidence to make a conviction, you have to question the validity of the charge. We won the league twice, but the "fixed" matches were quite often lost, like a Wolves game that would have won us the title. Was it Wolves?
****ing right and all, said it before and I'll say it again I don't want these pricks at the Den for their one game a season outing
