Millwall new boy: I didnât get the chance at QPR by Tom Moore Thursday, August 16, 2012 9:30 AM Danny ****tu is delighted to be back at The Den CommentsEmailPrintGot a story?. .To send a link to this page to a friend, you must be logged in. .. Millwall new boy Danny ****tu is delighted after putting his QPR nightmare behind him after feeling he was not given the chance to impress Neil Warnock or Mark Hughes in the Premier League. The 31-year-old endured a turbulent 18-month spell where he only featured in seven league games for the Râs, who he joined from the south London club in 2011, before being released in the summer. The defender only made one appearance for the Loftus Road outfit last year, playing in the 2-0 League Cup defeat to Rochdale. The former Watford man was invited to train with the Lions by manager Kenny Jackett and impressed him sufficiently to earn a one-year deal. âI think everybody knows that all I want to do is play,â ****tu said. âDanielâs about playing football. Iâm here now and Iâm with Kenny and I can work hard. âI feel more comfortable here. âI didnât feel I got the chance I deserved at QPR but thatâs in the past now. âI believe we can do a lot here. âIâm very happy to be back. Itâs a place that I know well. The defenderâs second debut did not go according to plan as the south Londoners were held to a 2-2 draw by Crawley before being beaten 4-1 on penalties. âAs a team weâre very disappointed that we lost that game on penalties but we can take the positives into Blackpool,â ****tu explained. âIâm working on my match-fitness. I thought Iâd have 20-30 minutes under my belt but it might have been longer. âIâm glad that Iâm playing a game and Iâm glad at Millwall.â Jackett described the 31-year-old as one of the leaders on the pitch against the Red Devils and ****tu was, understandably, delighted with the praise. âWhen somebody like Kenny Jackett says those things itâs a massive compliment,â he added. âHe knew me when I didnât know that much and needed to learn. âI was glad to come on the pitch to play my part.â
I can't believe some of the vitriol now directed at Big Dan. A QPR legend IMO even if that was as part of another era. We could have done far worse than make use of him when we were crashing down the league last season.
Dan you were a great QPR player in your time ... sadly not good enough now. The expectation of being a QPR fan will now go through the ceiling as we will be spending 20 million pound on defenders within the next few years not .5 of a million. Take stock lads
Huge man in all senses of the word. I was also surprised he didn't get more chances in this last spell with us.
He was a fantastic player in his day and he did a lot for us in those days. However, on his return, he was overweight, slow and had the turning circle of a Routemaster bus. I would have been really worried had he got any more game time than he did. The cost to us of his last contract was akin to a charitable donation: you feel good in giving it but get nothing else in return.
he lost me when he started referring to himself in the third person. Anyone that does that is right up their own arse, in my view. Good player when he was younger, fitter, faster and more mobile, but all of those things are now down a few notches, and he's no longer Premier League quality, I'm afraid. There's no room for sentiment when you are scrapping for survival.
Good player for us in his day but seriously needs to think about what he says. Remember Dan couldn't get away quick enough when he went to Watford and now the tables are turned he does not like it. Sorry Dan i have great memories of you but we have moved on and so have you.
All he's doing is spouting the usual cliches, it's no different to a new signing saying they've joined a club because it's massive, has a good tradition and the fans are brilliant. If someone who's hardly played for his previous club didn't say something like what ****tu has said in the interview it'd be more of a surprise, it's just a case of saying to Millwall fans worried about his lack of game time with you that he thinks he's going to be better for them. The 3rd person thing though is weird, and he only does it once. In the original article the "Dan is all about playing" bit isn't a caption under a picture or something is it?
As ever AAAGH, you're spot on. He wanted to play and was disappointed that he wasn't. What's so wrong with that? Obviously not Premier League but he was always a top NPC defender. (Flanners, that 3rd person thing really is weird.)
Awh, come on Pete. Okay "legend" might be stretching it a bit but the lad (along with Lee Cook) was our best player in the dark old days and helped keep us afloat. He (along with Lee Cook) was also our only saleable asset.
Agreed, it was the use of Legend that annoyed me, Lee Cook, now thats different he was a Legend and a great loss to this great club.
Until he is directly quoted as saying "Lee's about playing football" or something similar. Then he'll qualify both as a legend and a bit of a twat...
