This weekend is the highly anticipated south london derby between Charlton Athletic and Millwall at the Den. Both teams extended their unbeaten runs in the league during the midweek matches. Millwall extended theirs to 12 games unbeaten with a 1-0 away to Wolves with Andy Keogh grabbing the goal. As you all know we beat Peterborough 2-0 at the Valley. A special goal from Fuller saw us take the lead however he was then taken off injured and then Kermorgant wrapped it up late on with a goal on his return.

    Millwalls Home Form W5 D1 L3 F16 A12 PTS16

    Charltons Away Form W4 D3 L2 F13 A9 PTS15

    Previous Meetings
    Millwall 4-0 Charlton Athletic 13/03/2010
    Charlton Athletic 4-4 Millwall 19/12/2009
    Charlton Athletic 2-0 Millwall 09/03/1996
    Millwall 0-2 Charlton Athletic 05/12/1995
    Millwall 3-1 Charlton Athletic 08/04/1995

    Top Three Goalscorers-
    Charlton Athletic - Peterborough
    4 Jackson - 8 Wood
    3 Haynes - 7 Henderson
    3 Hulse - 6 Trotter

    Team to play Millwall -

    Hamer

    Solly Dervite Cort Seabourne

    Pritchard Stephens Frimpong Jackson

    Kermorgant Hulse

    Subs
    Button
    Taylor
    Haynes
    Cook
    Green
    Jonsson
    Wright-Phillips

Morrison will be a massive miss for us and I would expect it to be Dervite who replaces him instead of Taylor. Seeing as Fuller came of injured on Tuesday I would replace him with Hulse and have two big physically strikers upfront. The last few games against Millwall have seen loads of goals and I am hoping for more of the same on Saturday but this time with us getting all 3 points. I see the most likely outcome however to be a draw as neither team will wanna lose their unbeaten run or lose to a rival. I really hope we go for it we've been good on the road this season and if we can just improve our home form we could well be in the playoffs at the end of the season. Latest ticket sales show 197 remaining so if you wanna go but haven't got a ticket get down to the valley fast.

Nice early appearance - thanks Belvedere!

This is brewing up to be a beauty.

Predictions are well nigh impossible for this one but here goes -

Neither side will score four goals

Frimpong will be booked or sent off

Neither side will finish with 11 players

Win, lose or draw, the managers will have absolute respect for each other, before during and after the game

Head and Heart are in agreement for once - 1-1 draw

A draw would be a great result but we have ridden our luck during our recent run and I fear the worse with Morrison out. Not that Dervite or Taylor are bad players but it takes a few matches for a CB partnership to blossom. I think MM is the player we could least afford to lose for this fixture.

Stlll, we have pulled rabbits out of hats before this season. Who would have guessed the final result after 39 minutes against Cardiff? In fact, that might be our best strategy. Allow Millwall a two goal lead to lull them into a false sense of security then hit a quick five past them and hope we can hang on. Only downside is that CP will not be able to see out the game with six CBs on the field (as would be his natural preference) as we have one injured, one on loan and the new Paddy not joining us until January.

This is quite possible. In local derbies it's often those players from outside the clubs who get carried away- or managers if you remember Graeme Souness at Galatasaray planting their flag in the centre cicle.

Frimpong will be fine. In fact, i guarantee he'll get an assist in a 3-0 away victory. Think you have the team spot on belv <ok>

Should be a good game local derbies are always unpredictable but its hard seeing charlton get any points from this one, with the confidence and team spirit in millwall at the moment my nan could play on the wing and we could still win

I think she's best suited to playing through the middle.

    <cheers> Belv.

    Lynch,
I've seen your nan play, got a good motor on her but have a feeling that a good hard tackle at the start of the game and she won't be a problem for us :) Fair play to her if she gets through the 90 though <ok>

    ...................

    ......................Hamer...............

    Solly....Dervite......Cort.......Seabourne

    ................Tingtong..................

    Green...Pritchard...Jackson..Kerkar

Just can't see Chris playing two attackers in a game like this.

    Result -
    A sneeky 0-1 away win :)

4-5-1? Makes sense to me unless Haynes makes a miraculous recovery. I thought Stephens was getting rested for this game but maybe he is dropped. It will be a great achievement to get anything out of this game with Wiggins, Morrison Wilson and Haynes unavailable, but although a lot of our play hasn't been great recently our spirit is, so I am quite hopeful that we will get something.

You could be right. But that front five is hardly bristling with menace, is it? Wouldn't scare the Durham Beadles and I don't see them troubling the Millwall defence very much either.

Stephens and Kermorgant would add a bit of flair and creativity withut sacrificing much defensive capability. Could play Jackson on the left and Stephens in the middle. Could play Kermorgant in the hole instead of Pritchard.

Unlike you I am not a fan of Jackson and long for the time we don't need to play him at all, but without Morrison, Taylor and Fuller we have no other leaders and organizers, so I can see a case for including him at present.

To have any chance in this match we need Frimpong to come good (not just show promise), Seaborne to be more than just "steady", Hamer to play out of his skin, and one of our flair players (Kermorgant, Stephens, or maybe Fuller if sub) to conjure up something. That's like asking for a conjunction of four planets (to continue the mediaeval theme).

Pretty much agree with Eddie's astrological musings. We need our tough guys for this game. Morro will be a great miss. I'd be surprised and delighted if we get anything out of this one.

"...while Danny Haynes (hamstring) and midfielder Lawrie Wilson (thigh) are back in contention for starting spots."

This is from the BBC, so they could be out for another six weeks. <laugh>

They cannot be far away but I hope they don't come back prematurely. We all want to beat Millwall, but at the end of the day it is only three points with another 78 still to be played for.

There is an u21 match on Monday. Apart from our "real" u21s, who didn't have a game last week, there is a big queue of players who badly need a run-out to get match fit or to show what they can do (Haynes, Taylor, Wilson, Wagstaff, Jonsson, Button, Wright-Philllips, and Cook, plus Devite and Green if they don't play on Saturday. And there are only three slots for over-age outfield players. I can see one or two "behind closed doors " friendlies coming up, but even that is difficult this time of the year as clubs want to preserve their pitches.
