http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14119402.stm So, who do you think it'll be? Perhaps David James for what will probably be his last season here? Elliot?
As discussed before if carey is fit to play there is no other choice but to stick with him with Marvin as his no.2 Personally i would love to see David James offered some sort of coaching role with looking at keeping him at the club as a future manager. His Knowledge his contacts his experience of english football is what Milly dosent have a i think James will be a fantastic manager one day in the too distant future.
This hints that Louis is not in his starting XI? IMO one of the problems last year was a lack of natural leaders on the pitch
Exactly...you really need XI potential captains on the pitch. Without leadership and people prepared to take responsibility across the pitch you will struggle. I don't think a goalkeeper is the best position for a captain, although I guess James is usually surrounded by the team for most of the time so it would probably work..."Just hoof it up the pitch...hoof I say...hoof!!"
i think james we be with us the season after aswell as its like wat he had last year play so many games i'm expecting a slating for this but i would go with mcallister to be captain
Listening to Millen on the 'wireless' this morning it didn't take much reading between the lines to make out that he saw Carey very much as CLUB captain...a good and motivational bloke to have around. He mentioned 'Skoooosy', 'Marv' and 'Fonts' as likely on-field candidates. James won't be with you after this season if you don't go up.
I think Carey will be the Gary Neville of our club that Carey will be the club Captain but we will then have a team Captain. It showed something last season that Skuse was the vice captain and had captained the team when Carey was not available but when he came back from injury Elliott kepted the arm band. I did think James would be a better Captain than Elliott given his experience but I do feel Defenders make the better captains. My choice which should shock most people and be seen as being crazy would be to appoint Jamie Wilson if he can prove his fitness who does have experience as he was the Wales u21 and u19 captain before getting injured. Don't forget that players like John Terry were younger than him when they became captain of their clubs. However the senisible money would be on Elliott as think Millen is appointing him captain to stop other clubs becomming interested. He still lacks the passions for me to have that job.
Stick it on Maynard as an extra sweetener. Realisticaly Elliot plays like a captain, and I always like my captain to be a big intimidating centre back type in the Shaun Taylor/Kieth Millen/Boom Boom McCombe mould. Until we have one nobody sticks out. I am still hoping Hunt and Stewart naff off and leave some wages to grab a beast of a centre back.
And 20k+ a week isn't sweet enough? Personally dont strikers as capt, I think David J played like captain last year but I think he would be the same regardless. Especially impressed the was chatting to the youngsters all the through the last game if the season. if not Louis then I think Marv or Skuse both seemed to up their game when they Had the armband.
IMO we have very few players that are both starting XI and up to the job of motivating the team to go that much further for the win. I would hate to see Marv as captain purely because I don't think he's got enough quality to merit a first team place. First eleven for me : - James - don't like gks being captain Ribeiro - too injury prone Wilson - not enough experience - future captain IMO Fontaine - not a natural leader Nyatanga - possible future captain Adomah - not a leader Kilkenny - dont like new players being captain Cisse - very good player but not the shouting type JCR - as above Stead - should be made captain, runs his heart out and sets a good example Maynard - may not be here after janurary If not Stead then Macca as starting LB and captain
The issue we have with our squad is that a lot of our players haven't been around for long enough to really stake a claim at being captain. It would be ludicrous to give the captaincy to the likes Stead, Nyatanga or Adomah because like most of our players they've not been here for more than two years. All in all, it's a meaningless title anyway and I doubt it'd make Carey more or less of a leader on the pitch. However, if Carey isn't playing then I'd probably say that James deserves the captaincy. He's played football at the highest level and as far as experience goes no one in our team can even come close to rivalling that.
Rumour is here there will be 1 more final bid for Maynard. If they is rejected we will look elsewhere. I will be at least 5.5M by the sounds of things
I'd probably give it to that bloke who reached the F.A. cup final twice, represented England at the World Cup twice, has over 900 senior caps, and over 50 international caps.
